Fishing tournament provides disabled veterans with day of therapy

TO THEIR INTERNAL ORGANS BARRY: ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY HERE IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS 22NEWS REPORTER CIARA SPELLER TAKES US TO A FUN EVENT IN SOUTHWICK THAT BROUGHT SOME LUCKY VETERANS OUTDOORS TO ENJOY THEIR DAY THEY NEED A LITTLE BIT OF JOY IN THEIR LIVES AND THIS IS ONE WAY OF DOING IT FIRST THEY SALUTED OUR COUNTRY THEN THEY WERE OFF FOR A DAY ON THE WATER AT LAKE CONGAMOND IN SOUTHWICK! THESE VETERANS FROM ACROSS NEW ENGLAND TOOK PART IN THE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS FISHING EVENT THROUGH GAYLORD HOSPITAL IN CONNECTICUT CIARA SPELLER THE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS IS A MILITARY FISHING COMPETITION FOR DISABLED VETERANS AND TODAY WAS ALL ABOUT PROVIDING THERAPY TO THE NEARLY TWO DOZENS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS EVENT KATIE JOLY ALL THE VETERANS HERE DO HAVE SOME TYPE OF OF DISABILITY AND WE SERVE ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITY, VISUAL IMPAIRMENT, PTSD THROUGH OUR PROGRAM ONE VETERAN TOLD 22NEWS MANY OF THE OTHER VETERANS ONLY GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL FOR EVENTS LIKE TODAY RAY CLARY, AIR FORCE VETERAN YOU CAN'T BEAT IT GOOD DAY ON THE WATER ANY DAY IS BETTER THAN SITTING IN A HOSPITAL AND THIS TOURNAMENT HAPPENED TO COME TOGETHER BY ACCIDENT SGT JOE KOWALSKI I STARTED THIS PROGRAM BACK IN 2007 IT HELPED ME WITH MY ISSUES FROM MY SERVICE THOUGHT IT BE GREAT TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO HELP MY FELLOW VETS

EACH VETERAN WAS PAIRED WITH AN EXPERIENCED BOAT CAPTAIN FROM CONNECTICUT BASS NATION THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST TIME THE TOURNAMENT WAS HELD IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS
