Ice Fishing Equipment for Beginners

Right there is everything you need for starting to ice fish That's it

Hey, everybody I'm Dave Tiefenthaler, otherwise known as Tiefsa, and I'm here to tell you about what you need to get started ice fishing This is what you have to have to start and you can do it for under $100 Actually probably under $75 The first thing you're gonna need by far is good ice Now, there's no such thing as safe ice, but when I mean good ice I'm talking about two inches thick or more

I'm always a little leery when I first walk out on ice because there is no such thing as safe ice, but when there's no snow on it at least I can look down and see you know how it looks thickness wise I'm not gonna talk a lot about ice safety There's a lot of videos that are much better My favorite is a serious but silly one by Uncut Angling The first thing you need when you're ice fishing is an auger so you can get your way under the ice

Now this auger is very nice and it's a hand one you actually put it down and you spin, and it was only thirty six dollars It works really well Another thing I forgot to mention Gotta have sharp blades If you buy a used auger, it might have dull blades and that'll be brutal Make sure your blades are sharp

After you've drilled your hole, you need another thing, and that is an ice skimmer You see this right here You gotta reach into the hole and pull out all of the ice shavings that you drilled into and an ice skimmer will get this out This one was under $10 so this is a really nice one cuz it's metal and it's telescopic, so now you can get under the ice, you need a fishing rod Ice fishing rods are smaller see this, they are smaller

I think this is only 26 inches The reason why? You're sitting by a hole, so you don't want a big long rod, and you're fishing way far away from the hole You want to be close to the hole you're fishing and you can actually look down into the hole that you drill You can get a ice fishing rod for under $20 with the line on it and all, especially if you're just fishing for panfish The third thing, can you see it? You need a jig

The smaller the better for jigs You're gonna buy jigs because when you are fishing straight down that's called jigging because all you do is you bounce your bait or your lure up and down When you are starting ice fishing, smaller, tiny jigs is better because then you can catch a lot of different species of fish You might even surprise yourself you can still catch big fish on tiny jigs Matter of fact, I just caught a really big largemouth on a tiny jig, so that's all you need is a very little jig

On your jig though, they usually are bare You need to put bait so the fourth thing you're gonna need is bait The most popular or most common thing to use, and this is where I found the most success is a waxwork This is a wax worm this is what you're gonna use typically if you're using a jig and you're fishing for a pan fish this is what I suggest when you're just starting out If you are unable to get wax worms, and you have to buy something from a store, where it's like artificial stuff, I suggest like crappie nibbles, there's a lot of different Berkley things that they sell at WalMart that you could put on a hook, so there are some alternatives

You can even, and I've used this and it has worked, you can use Slim Jims as bait on hooks Slim Jims have caught me several sunfish and bluegill through the ice You just put a little bit of the Slim Jim on your hook And finally the last thing, you won't need this unless you catch a fish, but let's hope that you do, you need a pliers Always, always use a pliers when you're trying to get a hook out of something toothy like a northern pike because they can bite and it hurts

There are specialized pliers if you don't want to go grab one out of your toolbox You can buy something like this which is a longer nose thing so you really can keep your hands away from a fish's mouth and this grabs and clings on to look Hey don't forget this too You need a bucket you definitely need a bucket for when you're ice fishing because you want something to sit on Also, it doubles as something to put all your stuff into when you're ice fishing

All right, thanks for watching I hope this helps you Don't be afraid of going out there and trying to bust some fish out on the ice it's very fun and I'm glad I got into it I thought fishing was just something that you can do in the summer but you know, when the weather changes, just change tactics Get out there on the ice

Pier Fishing tips for Beginners: Rigging Live Shrimp!

I already did! Didn't I? Did she touch it? I touched it! You gotta touch it again, you both have to touch it again if you want another picture I'll touch the skin not the eye

Okay, touch the skin Show them how to do it! Ready? Touch it, just touch it it's fine Ahh! Today we are at Newport Pier in Miami Florida on a mission to catch some fish for dinner we will be using live shrimp for bait We hear that the fish in Florida love eating live shrimp

So here's the rig Egg sinker, swivel, leader line, hook People seem to really like to use live shrimp here, and, um, this is the common rig that I've seen, which is just a hook, 2 feet 30 lb leader, a swivel, straight to your line Um, so that's if you just wanna let the shrimp out free- lining

Uh, if you wanna put a sinker on it you put an in-line egg sinker through here and tie that on to your leader Here, Brendon So when you are hooking on a shrimp to your line you need to make sure of two things: make sure the hook isn't too big, you want the shrimp to be able to swim freely Do not kill the shrimp! Hook it on top of it's head, not the middle Look at this! What is this? Look how flat it is

What is this thing? Woah! Woah!! Turn it front ways again! It's like an optical illusion! What kind of fish is that, do you know? I think it's called a look down A look down I'm not 100% sure It is one of the strangest fishes I've ever seen, and this took a live shrimp Wow, look at that! We didn't want to eat a look down, but my dad is on something new

Woah! Wow! Now that's a good eatin' fish This is called a black drum They also love shrimp Basically everything in florida will eat a shrimp You know when they say the worst thing that can happen to you can and will happen to you? Well, it happened

What just happened? It pulled my- something pulled my rod over the- ha!- my rod is gone That's what happened Yeah, one of his rods, we were just standing here waiting for a fish to bite his rod and the one that he had out with a live bait just got pulled over and he lost it Yeah, something pulled it over! A fish just pulled it over I had it right here

No good! You gotta lift this up That was definitely a fish, right? Sh*t Must have been a big one because the whole thing just went *whew*! Rookie mistake What is that dad? Brendon's dad just hooked up on something How do you get him up? Woah! That is a big boy! What is that? Mangrove What's it called? Mango? Mangrove Snapper Oh, are they good meat? Oh yeah, they're good eating Keep it? Yeah, I'm gonna keep it

That one I'm going to have the restaurant cook for me Oh my gosh Are you guys gonna eat it? Yup Woah What's going on? He's got a big fish

Oh, there's a school out there Woah! That's a big one! Way out there? Way out there? Live shrimp is working very well, we are getting lots of bites and it seems like we're catching bigger fish That's pretty cool lookin'! It's hard to hold Woahh Now this kid is awesome, we noticed that he was patiently fishing for hours without a single bite

So we decided we should share some fun with him, and the shock on his face is priceless It is always nice to see when the younger generation is showing an interest in fishing Woah! Hold the line, hold the line! Go take a picture with your grandma Look at his human teeth! It's like the sheep head Sheeps head

Take a picture? Alright, I have no idea what kind of fish this is, hopefully one of you guys will be able to name it for me It's got really weird lookin' teeth, a spot on it's back, and this is what it looks like So comment below! Help me out! Live shrimp did the trick today! Live shrimp? Yeah, caught five different species of fish with the same bait Definitely the best day, look at this Oh my

We're gonna show how we cook it and everything, too Hopefully! We're gonna get it cooked and we're gonna show everyone how we're gonna eat our catch These are not going to waste! We are now at a Chinese restaurant, called King's Palace this place was the bomb Located in a small Chinatown in Miami, we finally found some comfort food

My family can't go a week without Chinese food, I'm serious Here, they are asking them to cook our fish They are asking the chef to prepare two of them steamed and one of them fried Snapper That's the mangrove snapper, that's the black drum, and that's the mystery fish with a spot

Black drum, mystery spot fish, we can start eating I think the name is really fancy, "mangrove," "mangrove" This place is great Home cooked place This is the black drum

It is first steamed, then covered in spring onions, ginger, cilantro, soy sauce and then it's doused in hot oil It's a traditional Chinese way of eating fish and it's my personal favorite Wondering, would you guys try it? How does this look to you? Are you ready? I only eat this fresh, ok? I'm not weirdo, but nothing beats a fresh fish head Yes, I grew up on fish heads It's been a long time since I eat one and I'm gonna totally enjoy this- Eat the lips! Stop talking, eat the lips- Lips? There's no lips, man! What are you talkin' about? Look at that big, fat lip right there! I can't eat this- Yes, you can! It's delicious! Fish lips! Oh! Mmm-mmm

Oh yeah What does it taste like? Pudding So it's more of- the texture is like a pudding-ish, tender-ish stuff It doesn't taste anything So it's more of a texture than a taste

Yeah, it's a delicacy I guess It's weird, but The fish head, it's more of a texture

Yeah It's nice and silky and, uh, soft, gelatinous- mmm, gelatinous, that's the right word Mission complete If you like this cooking segment please let us know below Do yourself a favor

Fly fishing Instruction for beginners and improvers

learning how to cast a fly can be difficult because you can't watch yourself while you cast to see what you're doing right or doing wrong the best solution is to spend a few hours with a qualified game angling instructor we recommend beginners take their first lesson on a stocked stillwater that gives you an opportunity to catch a fish on a fly we provide suitable rods reels lines and flies and explain how to select appropriate tackle for different types of fishing we will teach you how to perform roll and overhead casts and shoot line to achieve distance we can also teach you how to single and double haul to deal with awkward winds and cope with those just out of reach fish we will introduce you to some of the insects that make up a trout's diet and how to select a fly to match the hatch hopefully you will then catch a fish so that we can show you how to play land and safely release fish

Fly rod: How to Build a fly rod (Beginners guide)

all right so this is what comes in the box this is the X iSeries rods and this is their full kit okay this is the rod got a nice beautiful green my contour green finish to it hey so now that I got my rod in the mail I'm gonna start trying to build this rod I've never done this before all I'm doing is just going off the instructions that was given to me by the hook and the hackle so when you go on the website these can go into rod building instructions and it'll explain what to do so the first step it tells me I'm gonna want to mark the spine of the rod so what I'm told to do is I'm told to put it they say put on your boot but I think all they want me to do is to put it on the hard surface and you can kind of rotate and feel where it snaps into place I don't know if you can see and it's I've got it on a hard smooth surface that's the table here you can you can kind of see it snap into place that's already there and that's the spine so it kind of wants to you'll feel it when you start rotating it it it's almost like it's a you know it's got a it's got a spot that you know snaps in place so when you do that you're gonna want to measure it so right so once we find where that snaps into place we're gonna want to mark it okay there it is so wanna mark where the spine is actually what I read spine is on the backside we're actually not even marked about spine as we're marking where the belly is there now I know roughly where the spine is you're gonna want to do that for each section this is a four piece rod they say there's a little easier to do with the the two but kind of felt it there all right so now that I have my backbone found we didn't actually find the backbone for the base this is the end piece this is a pretty stiff and so it's real tough to find that find it and I hear that you know it's possible to kind of break it if you're really pushing on it just because it is you know it's a hollow wall or graphite so you're it doesn't really matter because this doesn't flex much anyway so once you do that once you find your backbone for the other pieces we're gonna go ahead and attach the handle so the bottom part of the handle fits on really easy it just kind of fits right over but the cork the cork does not I've actually done a little bit of reaming on this already but it's pretty tight it's good tight but that's about as far as I can get it get it down and you're gonna want this I placed a little mark so when you put that on you want to place a little mark to see where that basically ends up and then when you do that because this is gonna fit right over top like that so you want to mark basically where this cork is gonna end up so you want to ream this down to fit on there so I've done a little bit already it didn't fit whatsoever and I just I'm using a drill bit so the field that obviously doesn't go all the way down so you got to use two different drill bits which is kind of good because then you've got the taper because the broad tapers you can use the bigger drill bit on this side smaller on this side so also you're gonna want to try to drill out the walls of it differently so you can kind of angle it like this to give an even more taper so we're gonna go ahead and do a little more yeah you obviously want to make this as straight as possible and you want to add more than you think you'll need because you can always take some off at least that's what I think that should hopefully do the trick yep see sit on there take them off do one whole turn there we go oh when I took off that measurement one more want to see where to put the last bit of tape look at that that's a finish right so let's put everything together see if it fits yeah okay for this next step you're gonna need the rod answer ultimate gel 15 minute epoxy of it I want to get as much epoxy on this as possible always waiting more often that's why I've got a wet and dry paper towel I don't know if I'll really need that just get everything out ready for you because you do not want to miss a step when you do this I've got everything I need here make sure everything is measured out before you start out stuff it's quite thick huh this is technically for one rod just let's go ahead and mix up the whole thing use up all the epoxy that we can these two epoxies when they get together that's how oxy works these types of proxies they there's a reactor there's like a catalyst that will harden the other one so we know where we're going with the top part it always wipes them off but you know why I get this all over your beautiful rod if you'll need to so you only want to try to get it in the parts that that you are trying to cover so if you want all this on the blank try to cover every inch of the blank doing this right okay try enough to get it on your hardware in reality you know ice probably should have taped this yep I was right very very very right all right oh that's that's why we have paper towels right shoot and it went up under where the robber see it's gonna have to be so that's not good I gotta clear that that's probably why came the toothpicks there we go do that so now that's on there you're gonna want to let this sit for before you do anything else you want this to sit for a good 24 hours you are done a step you've got your handle on I'm starting to really look like a fly rod you know this is this is really not as difficult as as I thought it would be it'll mess up there with the epoxy well they should have had a little more ready and taped up better but reality for the first one I mean this still is not gonna look bad at all I think this is gonna come out looking really really really good so after I did the video I did a little research and realize that when I board this out when I read this out did I use teeth a drill bit and it's because what I had I didn't have a file for it then I started reading a little bit into it it did take a while for me to actually read that out with the drill bit and I found some people said to use a rat tail file so a reptile file is this thing and it's just basically a long file that has a bit of a taper already to it so it actually ends up working out perfectly anyway so I already started reaming a little bit for the camera and unfortunately I don't know what happened footage selves but I got to about that point and you know just to show you what it was but I'm gonna do it again here so I've got it got it reamed to here and that's about all that is gonna go in I don't want you to see how quick it is to ream this and you want to go just all the way through it does leave a bit of a mess so if you're lucky like me and have a great wife that doesn't mind that's all best ahead good for you otherwise put a tarp down do this or do it in the ground or something but you can see how quick that was and that's already down maybe a one more reamer to and it would be right on that's it it's a lot quicker get it yourself a rat tail file there think that it's five bucks all right so now we're gonna go ahead and add our eyelets and I've got a little checklist here when you go on their website and they have this checklist of or this guide that yes this graph of how to lay this out multiple size guides so let's go ahead and lay those out that one's larger than this one that one is the same size so that's how they're gonna be laid out all right so on it it says to add on the tip top first because that's gonna so we can see here the end of the the rod the graphite comes to here so if that adds another I mean it really you know I talked to the the guy that you know I was this when a question about this because I started doing this and I wasn't quite sure he said you know in reality it doesn't really matter that that quarter of an inch it's it's not that important so you know I mean but he does recommend to add it on there we're gonna go from the tip top four and a half inches okay so four and a half inches right here so that's gonna be where our next guide is I'm gonna go ahead and Mark that we want to rotate it around and roughly lay it out to where it's right where your mark is for the spine as close as you can you just want to tape one side on is what you're gonna end up doing is you're gonna want to wrap right off the eyelid so you want to wrap you know this way and once that's wrapped then you can pull wrap your thread then you can pull off the paper and then wrap the other side in so and put that back on and what we're gonna do this so four and a half so the next one is nine and a half this is four and a half so really we need to be five inches from that right on five there we go all right grab the next eyelet gruffly try to make it in mind with previous one when I refuse on fairly tight however they stay on now that worked to the ferrule let's go ahead and attach this on because if you just put it on measure to hear this this moves up into that the rod seven and a quarter okay pretty close to the feral but I think that will be okay just closed but it's not right on it so I'll leaves enough room to do a rap and then do a you know and then that's okay okay so this is my little makeshift rod building station here so based on what it says on the website it says to cut some notches in a in a box it's that way it can spin you can see that it's it's able to spin pretty easily okay it says to put your pretty cool and genius idea actually but the spool in a tub and then run the thread into the book and you can adjust the I guess the pressure by either putting books on top or just putting it down further in them in the paper and that will adjust how much how fast this is coming out the other end you okay now I am ready to apply the epoxy they said to put some tin foil down I guess it keeps somehow it from hardening as fast wot's on the tin foil so it gives you a little more time to apply it but I'm just gonna use the box here I think that I was using to wrap the guides okay so this is the finished rod I mean really for not doing this before I thought it would be a lot more difficult it really turned out pretty simple you know it's it's not perfect but really really not bad at all you can see that came out really nice hmm there are a few spots so a couple things I would recommend is really be careful when you're adding the epoxy you can see that's not perfect there probably should have done a another coat for that one and I thought I might I might still do that I have some epoxy left but most of these turned out good a couple of them have you can see where I didn't trim the thread properly so that's one thing I will say don't use scissors like I did use a a razor blade to really cut it off right at the edge and it'll be it'll come out looking a little nicer but overall I mean for for not doing this before and not having exactly the right tools I mean this came out looking as good as most of my rod you could really get besides a couple of little little problems so those are easily overcome with the right tools and the right know-how and my next rod will come out looking I think perfect I know know what to do now and so you know as you can see I don't really know anything about how to do this is my first rod but it still came out looking really really nice I'm a it's a it's a really nice fly rod it's kind of hard to show the action on it but this blank specifically is kind of moderate I thought it would come out a little stiffer but when you add the components on it it does give a little weight to more of the tip so it does you know Bend a little more so this is a moderate moderate to fast action I would say blank it's not super fast which is good I mean this is going to be a really really good rod I think for just you know everyday workhorse type the rod and since when I built would be really nice to use this everything

Fishing Tips for Beginners

Fishing is an easy sport to pick up; we can get you started with just a few tips You'll need a rod and reel with the right rigging

When you tie on your hook or lure, use a knot that won't come loose on the first tug Thread your line through the eye of the hook or lure about six inches and fold it back on itself Holding both pieces of line, rotate the hook ten half turns until the line is twisted Insert the end of the line between the hook and the first twist, making a loop Bring it back through that loop, and pull on both pieces of line; that will tighten the knot and snug it up against the eye

Trim the end leaving about a quarter inch Don't just bite it off; it's really hard on your teeth I'm using a weight and bobber and a nice, juicy worm; this is good for bluegill, catfish, carp, crappie, and trout If you thread the worm onto the hook it's less likely to be picked off by the smaller fish

How to Fly Fish : How to Cast: Fly Fishing Tips for Beginners

So what I'm going to do is started out with just basically showing how you should cast the basic casting So first thing remember your right hand is your control hand excuse me your casting hand, left hand is your control hand

What we what to do we are going to do a back cast which I'm doing right now What I'm doing here if you can watch my wrist I'm not breaking my wrist Taking my rod the tip of my rod straight up and stopping and I'm heisting The purpose of this is to give the line proper time to make a loop So you can get the location where you want to put your fly and it keeps you from having issues such as wind knot, catching trees and limbs and that type of stuff

Now if you do go back to far when you are casting you are going to catch leaves, catch people ears, you are going to catch things you do not want to catch or then fish So make sure that you do not break your wrist, you keep your forearm and arm close to your chest and give it time to make its loop As you give it time to make its loop you can pull your line out from your control hand for distance Now when you get your bug in the water what you want to do is take that control hand feed that line that fly line into your right hand The reason for this is to secure the fish when it hits

Hopefully here in a little bit you see what I mean But, what we do here we got a streamer that we are floating in the water right now and basically you just want to have the basic drift with to drag Now as you would see as I cast and I put in the water the current is going to take the line You don't want that to happen So what we do is after you put your floating line into your right hand we do a move called mending what that does it lifts the floating line up over the current

So it assist in a natural drag and a natural drift of the fly that we are using in the water

FLY TV Squeeze – Beginner’s Guide to Belly Boat/Float Tube Fly Fishing

Hi and welcome back to FLY TV Squeeze! I am Daniel Bergman – And I am Pontus Sjölund

We thought that Pontus should try fishing from a belly boat for the first time I have watched you fishing when filming for the FLY TV episode about trouts It just looks so much fun – It is, I can tell you The casting you already have under control, more or less

Niklaus taught me about a month ago when we fly-fished for pike You can watch that film down here, via this link That was about a month ago I can cast, but I am not a pro But I can get the fly out

– Exactly I thought I would go through some basics when you are fishing with a belly boat It is almost just to jump in, but there are a few tricks to use to make it easier Let's get these babies in the water – Yeah, sounds like a plan

Put the flippers on – Just put them on the wader shoes? Maybe after they are in the water It is sort of hard to walk with them Especially in the water Are there any handles or something? Or is it just to grab them wherever? You have handles on the inside, but just get it in, it is not heavy

It is really light actually It makes it possible to bring it out even when you are out with a chopper First of all, take the line tray away And get in Did you leave your flippers on the shore? – Yes, I left them there for you

Stay put I will get them This does not feel that effective Without the fins Maybe I should tie them

Just like that Perfect I feel like a duck – Yeah, you look like a duck We will start with this

Are you a right or a left hand caster? Right – Right hand? We will put the rods facing your left side, so you do not cast over them Then take the landing net, just put it on top of them It is easier to get it quick, if you want to land a fish Put this over your knees or thighs, to have kind of a line tray

Does this one go down here? Normally you should have an inflatable collar or something when hitting the water We forgot to bring it, but we have 68° F in the surface water It is a small lake and we are several guys We will manage anyway, but if you are going out alone Or in November or something, it would be a good idea Bring a life jacket or an inflatable collar Let's get out! I will get my flippers on and get going This was fun! Just like snorkelling

– Yeah, it is easy Like this? – Try to keep the feet further down You will get a longer stroke and more power You will not make as much noise on the surface that scares the fish either It is easier to turn and easier to get some speed going

It becomes deeper quite fast, so I think we should get out a little bit Just cast out here – Yeah, exactly One thing to think about when fishing like this is to mind the wind If the wind comes from this side, you do not want to cast like this- -because then the line will blow straight in your face

It is better to have the wind in the back or on your other side For example, we got the wind coming from this angle now You want to cast in either that direction or that one With the wind coming in from your left since you are a right hand caster Like this? – Here we go! One thing you can do is to try and keep the rod a bit higher- -than you would do if you were fishing from a boat for pike

I am much closer to the surface now – Keep your rod tip high in the back cast Otherwise it will fall down in the water and if you are fishing a Magic Head- -it might even flip it back – I felt that now when I touched the water How long did you say you have been doing this? A month

One and a half I had not fly-fished before, before that time a month ago But I have watched a lot of guys fly-fishing That is good Do as you have seen people do

I think I have caught a bit bigger fish It might be a new personal best for trout It seems to be a good paddle on that boy Good fish! This is definitely my biggest trout ever It is a long nice fish

It is just awesome to catch this one from a belly boat In the middle of nowhere Bye bye, baby This clear water is just awesome Come on

Fish on! That one looks bigger It is a better fish Is it a really good one? – Hard to say, they are so strong Look at that paddle! It is great to catch a fish like that from a float tube Come on, baby! That is a big fish

Look at that guy! It is a real beauty – You took it on a Magic Head? They seem to like these Magic Heads – I wonder how old this guy is How long has he been swimming around here? – He has been swimming here for Maybe longer than you have been Subtitles: Daniella Falkman Twedmark wwwtextsmartse

Beach Fishing for Beginners: 3 Simple Ways to Catch Fish!

What's going on guys, today we're having a tackle talk about three of the most effective methods for surf fishing My first favorite method light tackle little spoons and stuff like this On light line, small reel, small rod on the surf, a lot of fun

Method two: ahhhhh!! I just hooked myself! Method two: bait fishing using hook and sinker and method 3: plugging All right, so I've got boxes for each kinds of these, uh, each kind of fishing that I was talking about, I've got my light tackle box with like, little spoons and stuff like that in there

I love these little spoons Um, I've got my bait fishing box, which, I've got all my sinkers, all my hooks, leader line, pre-tied rigs that I've tied yeah, lots of different stuff for bait fishing and then I've got one of my many plugging boxes right here full of different metal plu– different plugs, top water metal dip divers lots of different kinds of plugs in here and now I have them in all separate boxes because I consider them as different kinds of fishing I don't usually bring all three with me to the beach because if I'm focusing on one kind of fishing I like to focus on one kind of fishing The first method I'm talking about today is like, light tackle spoons So I know Kast master makes a bunch of these kinds of spoons all different sizes I usually get 1/2 ounce, quarter ounce, 1 ounce but that's if I'm targeting little dinner size fish from the first trough I recommend anyone start with a 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce little spoon like this, now spoons like this catch all sorts of fish I'm telling you guys, all sorts of fish Um, when I cast this out I usually have no idea what I'm gonna hook up with and that's really cool to me that-that you know, casting out–the mystery of not knowing what you're gonna catch that's what really draws me to the sport of fishing in general, um, so I think that these are really, really versatile, they work all over, they work everywhere, I've caught fish on spoons everywhere I've been, um, and I really really like them, and now the trick with using–now the trick with using these little spoons like this is to make sure you have the correct gear You're not going to be able to cast this little spoon out On something like–on something like this or something big like this

These are just too big You won't be able to get your line out far enough What I recommend you guys use for these spoons, um, these light tackle, is a salt water approved uh, lighter reel, and I just ordered myself a reel that would be perfect for this KastKing This is the Kodiak

This handle is what I really like about it, now, let me show you why All right Look at that Perfect Not too big, not too small

This will be a very versatile reel for me, I will be able to use this on the pier I'll be able to use this on the surf I'll be able to use on the jetty, brackish water, fresh water, it's salt water approved, good size, now the part I like about the kno– the-the handle is the knob right here when you order the five thousand sized Instead of getting like a standard, like– Instead of getting that little standard knobby-knob like this, you get a nice handful with this, look at that, and this allows for a a nice grip on your reel so you don't feel like your fingers are gonna slip out if you happen to land a- if you happen to catch a big fish, um, it's perfect, and it's not so big that you won't be able to cast something like this out, so long as you have the right diameter braid um, you will be fine For this kind of fishing, I recommend you spool this up with, like Probably ten pound braid Braid is a really sensitive line It has no stretch so you're able to feel every little touch and I think that's important when you have, uh, light tackle like this so you can really be able to set the hook on them good

Now I'm going to show you a really quick trick with spooling up braid, it's gonna save you a little bit of money and I think a lot of people will benefit from this tip, here it is You ready? You don't need to spool this whole spool up with braid If you don't have anything, but braid on here, it's gonna start slipping It's gonna start slipping, and maybe some of you have had this problem before where like the drag is completely locked but you pull it and it's still spinning Why is that? Because braid can't grip on to this

What you need to do is put monofilament backing on it Think about how big your spool is Are you really going to be casting 300 yards of braid? I don't think you can cast 300 yards of braid, and if you can, props to you, man, but I can't cast 300 pounds of braid! So what I usually do is I put mono backing on here and then probably 150 yards of braid this way you save a bunch of braid, this way, you save a bunch of braid and your line won't slip So I'm going to show you real quick Well I'll fill the spool about a quarter of the way And I've got 20 pound mono backing right now and this–KastKing braid has been working for me pretty well And they're like ten dollars cheaper than like this the standard braid that I usually get Power Pro spider wire It's usually ten dollars more expensive KastKing does the same job and to give you more of it

So the line that I've been using is this KastKing braided line, made in the USA Spectra fiber and it comes on this awesome biodegradable spool Which I think is a really good effort in helping with water conservation ocean conservation Because plastic is really ruining our oceans, Erin and I have been talking to you guys about this for a while Now how we should all be picking up our trash we should be leaving our spots cleaner than when we first arrived and I think this fits in so perfectly because at least they're putting effort into Minimizing waste use the spool one time and then you throw it away and then that plastic lives on earth for a long time That doesn't make sense to me Why create that plastic is bad for the world Thank you KastKing for making something like this And I'm using the Uni to uni knot to attach the braid to my mono If anyone wants a tutorial if anybody's interested in this tutorial on how to tie a uni to uni knot Let me know in the comments below I'll make one the second I hear one person tell me they need help with that and Then I fill the rest up with braids Anybody interested in the KastKing braid with a biodegradable spool or the Kodiak 5000 We've got links in the description below Alright, and it's ready to go This is gonna be awesome our next method method number two bait fishing There are so many different rigs that you can tie all with the basic idea This rig is one of my favorite rigs you guys may have seen us talk about this rig before It's the same rig in the second skippers surf fishing kit now We provide you all the things to tie and how to tie this rig In our senkoskipper kit

It's not a PDF if you want to read it all in the link in the description below But this rig is a very versatile rig You don't have to have one hook You can have two hooks You're gonna have three hooks if you wanted to have three hooks With this, it keeps the beat off the ground Whereas a fish finder rig that hook the the hook is on the ground It's on the ocean floor since it's off the bottom I Get less catfish I get less skate

I get less, you know like the bottom feeding fish Especially I get a lot of hookups on the top hook far from the bottom Anyways, I like to rip this up Lately, I've been liking to rig this up with the supersalty tentacles This is the mixed bag that we have I'm gonna show you this real quick the mixed bags come with squid chunks made from the body and squid tentacles made from the tentacles of the Squid and it comes with a bunch of salt with it to keep it preserved So it comes with a bunch of this salt but the salt is a good thing it helps keep it preserved and it also is infused with a lot of Squid scent all that squid juice is in the salt and it keeps it smelling like fresh squid Love it So here are the body parts Here are the tentacles everyone gets tentacles in the mixed bag Body body Body body Alright, so for this I want to show you guys something I want you guys to try this yourself Get the tentacles Cut off a bit and then You're gonna feed it onto your hook like a worm like this Now I'm using circle hooks Because those are safer for fish Alright look at that Hook it up like this get the tentacles put it on here now for for bigger hooks either use a big tentacle or use a chunk bait like this and With these bodies, you've got a lot of meat on them and they stay on there forever There you go Look at that perfect in combination with like fresh-cut bunker or like blood worms This is a nice chunk bait to add on or by itself Look at that So now when this is sitting when this is in the water this surf, okay waves and current will be pushing it Back and forth and swishing, doesn't it look like a fish to you Smells great moves very naturally Other beats I would use on this bloodworms cut bunker mmm, chunk beat any kind of dead beat dead fish cut dead fish Lots of stuff works on on these hooks right here but yeah for these hooks you can put whatever kind of chunk bait you want on them you cast it out you sit there you Wait for the tug I really like this kind of fishing especially if I'm going with family or friends and I don't want to pay full attention to fishing I can have this out have a bail up have my drag set So I can really just chill lay back and I don't have to be super focused which brings me to my next method plugging This is Like a candy store for me like this all looks like candy to me

I Frickin love them one They're really beautiful They're really fun They're really beautiful aren't they? This one was actually made by a subscriber Linnell Thank You Man I still have not gotten a chance to use it We're preparing for our trip to Cape Cod soon And I think that these will work really well NL Thank you very much These are metal lip divers Metal lip divers stay subsurface

They're not on the top, but they're just below it and they'll dive like this This works really well for lots of different kinds of fish Especially big predator fish Rockfish striped bass Now the thing is these are made of wood and I don't want to fish for this for For-4 bluefish because it'll ruin my paint Just a personal preference I would rather not use such a beautiful lure on a toothy fish like that For toothy fish I use plastic stuff like this Or I don't know if it's plastic whatever material this is but it can get beaten up and I don't care This is a tsunami one of the tsunami talking poppers Not too expensive Really fun to use the thing with top water and plugs like this is these are probably to three ounces, you know Like they're not they're not light things You would not want to use light tackle to be throwing something like this what I recommend for Top water plugs like this like save ones like this on the surf is a long rod 10 to 11 feet 10 11 foot rod will be good with a bit reel With heavier braid, so I'm thinking like 30 40 pound braid 20 pound braid will work but I'm afraid of cut slicing my finger on that braid and The cast King braid will work perfectly for this I highly recommend you use braid when you're casting plugs like this because You want it to go really far? That's one of the reasons why it's so big and heavy You want it to go really far and cover a lot of water when you're working these bass on the top? You want to cover as much of that water column as possible And this is making a bunch of noise at the surface of the water splashing around at boom all of a sudden something will come out of the water and eat it and it's so exciting to see it because it's boom and Then it's a train on you and it's a train on the end of your rod

It's awesome You're gonna see more of that in the future because we're going to cape cod soon So when you fish when you fish something like this there's a lot of different ways to fish it This will fish way different than this Look at how its shaped this will float and pop water from the mouth This one more more so glides through the water So but for something like this a popper What you're going to want to do is cast it way out there and start popping bringing it back Okay, there's many different ways many different speeds You can bring it back That's something that you need to work on yourself It depends on what the fish want Sometimes you cast it out Pop pop pop wait Pop pop pop wait pop pop pop

Sometimes they want fast pop Pop pop up up up, you know, it's there's different retrieval ways and you got to experiment with different ways So final tips for these get yourself the correct rod Okay, ten eleven foot Ten eleven foot rod with the right reel and the right braid throw these when you see fish Busting on the surface You see birds diving like crazy throw these when you see fish coming out of the water You see fish chasing out a little bait fish Throw one of these it'll really attract it with all that sound with all that splashing It'll come up and smack it hard Have fun Thank you everyone for listening to me ramble on about surf fishing I really hope that I could help anyone out there who needs help because I remember a time where I Didn't know anything I didn't know much about fishing and It was kind of hard for me to find out the information We want to be the source of your help

Anybody who needs help Please reach out to us We're willing to help if you guys have any more questions and you need more answers we've got a detailed guide as well as the kit that comes with all the stuff to tie the the bait fishing rig I was talking about This is something that I wrote personally myself to answer a lot of questions that we've been getting and It's just chuck full of information how to tie the rigs it comes with the with the gear to tie the rigs as well if you're going to the beach for a week or to Pick yourself up some good stuff Have a good time good luck out there guys I know you can do it if you get to the beach and you get skunked the first day do not get discouraged That happens to me on the rag I'm not even kidding We're filming our show and the first day we get there almost every time we get skunked We'll we only catch one little fish It's about experimenting and learning Remember guys don't get discouraged remember how the ocean makes you feel and Try and remember that when you're there and not get too frustrated with yourself if you cannot catch fish See you guys
