Beginner Beach Fishing Tips: Using Plugs and Lures

I think it's gone- no it's still here! Yea-heah! That's what I'm talking about! That top water bite is so fun! Day one in Florida! We flew down to, um, Orlando yesterday, and this morning we are out on the surf trying to catch some fish! This month, the Senko Skipper team is in Florida on a mission to create videos to help the world learn more about salt water fishing We're here to explore one of the world's most fantastic fishing locations, and document the fascinating world of fish that live in Florida's oceans

So stay tuned for a month filled with great fishing, monster fish, and all the methods you need to start catching them yourselves I am using what's called a "Gibbs Bottle Popper" Gibbs is the brand, and this is called a bottle popper, and what you want to do is work it side to side when you're out on the water It makes a whole bunch of splashing, fish will see that there's splashing above and come up and strike it! So, the goal with this is to cast it far, it's pretty heavy, probably 2 ounces right here Try and get it out as far as you can

So you'll want to catch out as far as you can because it basically allows you more opportunity for a fish to see your lure Basically, the further you cast the better chance you have of hooking up on a fish Right now I've got a 9-foot, medium power St Croix Mojo Surf I mean, it's not like the greatest rod out there but it's a great, affordable beginner rod

If you want to start getting into plugging, like I am, I just started getting into this and it's very rewarding, but, uh, it can be tricky So my plug is out there, I'm going to keep a tense line and look at my hand

I'm making this funny motion and I'm reeling it at the same time Nice and slow Something was chasing my bait the whole way back! You could see the fish jumping out, did you see it?! Yeah, I saw it! This thing causes a whole bunch of commotion at the surface of the water, and it will draw the fish up! Hi! I got a fish on! I have no idea what it is something small Bluefish! Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, look at it's jaw Rippin' lips! Woah! Christian, it you're watching this, remember you told me about ripping lips? Look at that! Ha, I set the hook too hard oh my god, I ripped it's lips

This is a bluefish! What I think is really interesting is how fishermen are basically constantly trying to think like the fish I mean, when you're out there on the beach in the morning, you see a lot of changes as time passes and the sun rises, and I think what many people don't really realize about fishermen is how connected they really are to nature I mean, they really try to understand why the fish think the way they do, behave they way they do, why they like to bit a lure near the surface

Does the splashing make them think it's an injured fish? I think it's gone- no it's still here! Yea-heah! That's what I'm talking about! That topwater bite is so fun! As soon as Brendon caught one fish on his popper, his friend, James, hooked up as well because when bluefish are present they're there in schools, and when you catch one you can expect to catch a lot, just wait for them to move through We doubled up! Whoo! Whoo-hoo! So, every fisherman that we've talked to, especially down here in Florida, they all hate bluefish Why does everyone hate bluefish? Is it just 'cause they're, like, annoying and you're going for other things and there are so many of them? That's my guess, that's what I've heard, but I want you guys to tell me if you like bluefish, if you hate bluefish, why? Comment below! Whip it! There you go! Now it's landed, close it

reel it Now, now you know how to work it, right? Yeah, I can't feel it It's okay, just make sure you have tension

You will very likely get a fish right now The bluefish are hitting real hard right now, they're all in here Uh huh Reel it in faster A little bit faster, there you go

How do I know how fast to reel it? Faster! You gotta– you want to try and keep it on the surface, and this thing sinks Ah! No wonder I can't see it! Oh! Ohhh! Hahaha! There you go, I told you! (Oh my gosh!) Set the hook harder! Urgh! There you go! Walk down, walk down! (Hahaha!) She got it! Wow! Ahh! I don't want to lose it! Oh, man! Bring it in, bring it in! Bring it in!! Nice!!! Alright girl, Good job! (Hah, haha!) Caught my first bluefish! That's your first bluefish? (Yeah, this is my first bluefish!) On topwater? Nice job! So, I changed it up Using a piece of tin now This thing is like, 3 ounces so it's basically a bullet when I cast it out Accompanied with my 9-foot rod, the reason it's so long is so you can cast it out real far, and, basically, you can fish different columns

1) You wanna just try and let it hit the bottom try and let it hit the bottom and then rip it up, just jig it up and down off the bottom Or, you could just swim it back What I like to do is bounce it off the bottom So here's my primary set up right now, I've got, uh, 40 lb

braid, you can use 20 if you want, um, and then I've got a line-to-line to 30 lb fluorocarbon and that is attached to your lure! and I've got this on a big, 8000 8000-sized reel Alright, excuse me I gotta go I gotta go catch another fish And just as it had been all morning, as soon as one person in our group found a fish, everyone else caught one as well Brendon's father, Michael, caught his bluefish on the same popper that I did, and we got that from Amazon, it's called the GT Ice Cream, and it's made of a super-hard plastic that bluefish's teeth can't break We hope, with this episode, that we helped some beginners learn the basics of beach fishing with plugs and lures So let us know if you've ever tried this kind of fishing, where you're from, what you've caught with it, or comment and tell us how you like to fish off the beach

We're here in Florida to explore one of the world's most fantastic fishing locations and document the fascinating world of fish that live in Florida's oceans So stay tuned, and hit that subscribe button for a month filled with really cool fishing, monster fish, and all the methods you need to start catching them yourselves

Beach fishing: What will we catch with this?

OH, OH, OH! Here we go! *Drag screaming* zzzzzzztttt I know, I wanna let him eat This drag is tight! I'm going to let him take it because this drag is so tight My heart is going a million miles per hour

We are in Sebastian, Florida looking for some big fish These are our new friends and local fishermen Mike and Evan the brackish pros We met in the other day at the pier and they wanted to put us on some fish So we were in charge of bringing the bait Luckily, last night, we caught a lot of bluefish

Once the bait arrives, Evan jumps into action cutting the bait into chunks Nice and bloody The bloodier the better Right? And then hook his chunks of bait on a big "J" hook Attached to a 4 oz sinker? 3 oz Some wire

Barrel swivel to 200 pound Then another swivel at the end Then cast it out far and wait Try to guess what fish were going for Write your guess in the comments below right now

Conch shell! I found you this Aww thats so pretty! Florida is full of predator fish Something will eat our bait We just have to wait for them Look, look, look, SHARK

Right there Right there He was right there He was right there Erin! Get the camera! There was a shark right there bro! Literally right there

Right in the first wave right there Woohoo one of us is about to get picked up! You saw a shark? Yea bro! I just seen his F*#ing fin come up right there dude Right there What kind of shark was that? It was probably a spinner because i didnt see no black tips on it So there are some sharks hanging out here in the shallows? Right there in the shallows, right in the surf

Oh dude Get ready man, Sharks right here you right here it is right here tonight Just watch the waves, watch the water He just, the spinner came right up out the water Like holy sh*t And people swim in here? NOT ME! Shark fishermen know not to swim in here I was lookin right there too, like something was, I was just lookin I just seen a fin like

The other day we were out here and we could see them smashing the top spinning out of the water OH OH OH! HERE WE GO! OH he dropped it He dropped it

He got excited! I know Im just trying to let him eat, this drag is tight! Im going to let him take it, because this drag is so tight My heart is going a million miles per hour! I know Im lookin like a rookie bro, but just chill *Drag Screaming* Zzzzzzttt Grab it, come on! This is for you Grab it! Grab it, grab it! Here gimme the camera Go! Tighten the drag a little bit

Tighten the drag Go ahead, tighten the drag, tighten it There you go, there you go! Reel!! Reel! Reel! Reel! There you go! Reel! He got it, he got it, let him go! There you go! Shark Go! Reel it baby! Lets GO! You got a shark on baby!, You got a shark on! There you go, follow him! Follow him down the beach There you go baby you got a shark on! It feels like Im hooked onto a small car right now And its taking me for a ride

The only chance I have, is letting it fight and reeling in the slack When fighting big fish, it's a game of tug-of-war If you pull too hard the line WILL snap The shark is driving me down the beach and towards the inlet BRING EM IN! ITs a nice little one, but its a nice way to start the morning

Yeah I'm ok with a little one right now He almost dumped you though! You are already 3 rings down bud! That B*tch was going bro, cuz I had to let him take it becuase I had no– Yea bro, he hit it right on the surf! YESS BRO I TOLD YOU I SEEN HIM RIGHT HERE! OHHH HE'S GOIN, HES GOIN, HES GOIN! There you go Listen to that F*@$in reel scream There you go! The virginity is being took from this reel Follow him down the wave Follow him down

But not everyone was happy with us running down the beach A fellow fishermen approached us and he threatened to cut off our fish if we tangled up his lines Dont cut us off! Its a fish, we cant help where its going man! Its a fish, we cant help where its going He's in the surf tho, he's in the shallows! Your line is past that Have you seen what it is? Have you seen what it is? Get it on film, Get it on the camera! Just dont tangle my lines up, I dont care about your video

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 will get cut *SHHHHH* Come on lets just land it! Dont worry about him Lets just land it, and get it back in the water Its right here Its right here in the surf

We will let it go right now, we will let it go Just get it on camera! Sorry dude We don't want to tangle up your lines But we have a fish right here in the surf Its actually so close that it swam under his lines Dont threaten to cut off my fish when its that close

Right? Is it a black tip or a spinner? Careful! Careful! WOOO, YEAH! We did it! Our first black tip! Ahhhh So we spent a bit of time researching to make sure that this is actually a black tip and not a spinner shark and we believe that this is a black tip because it doesn't have the black on its anal fin which is actually the main difference between the black tip and a spinner shark But what do you guys think? Do you think it is a black tip or a spinner shark? Let us know in the comments below Alright lets bring it back in Lets put it back in How do you unhook this? *THUMP* Get you in the nuts?? I feel these all, i feel these all the time

Just pull the nose up if you could Like this? Oh my God! Look at his teeth! Get that GoPro in there Has anyone watching this ever caught a shark? Because this was our first time Black Tip! Alright hooks out Lets get it back Hold this

Ready? Be careful! Be careful! Get em out there to the surf There you go! *Heavy Breathing* First shark down, 100 more to go! Dude Awesome! So who is next? While we had kind of a tense encounter with the other fishermen earlier, he seemed to change his attitude after we let the fish go That was crazy! We were literally just talking about how We saw something jump up right on the surface Yeah I told you I seen him right there! Im like dude

we are going to get took! Were gonna get took! Then that rod just BENT! As I was saying Oh sh*t we about to get one your line goes *Zooop* We want to thank the Brackish Pros for teaching us how to catch a shark We are the Brackish Pros so we'll be doing freshwater Bass fishing, catfishing and we'll go right to saltwater to shark fishing, snook fishing We do all kinds of fishing you know? And then try to educate people how to catch the fish because a lot of times people don't know how to catch fish, they wanna learn So we try and teach

Yeah, just like you guys! You can go ahead and check them out on social media And if you want to join our community of fishermen on facebook we'll put a link to our group in the description We love that group and we have been sharing all kinds of stories and we hope that you'll join our community there Thank you guys so much for watching this video and stay tuned for more

This isn't one of the biggest ones but he was one that was willing to eat for us That's always the good kind And this guy you could certainly catch on a 5 weight rod Let's see if I can get him up real quick and show you what he looks like and get him back in the water Here he is and you can see the little redfish worm fly we were using today

Beach Fishing: The Best Baits to Catch Fish at ANY Beach!

What's going on, guys!? Today we're going to be talking about what is the best bait to use for the beach? Woah! So, today, we're going to catch some dinner fish, using the Salt Clams and the fleas and the Fish Bites, we're going to catch some dinner fish, cook it right up on the beach, and, uh I'll show you guys how I do that! These baits are really good for beginners if you're trying to target specific fish, and you're really intensive into, like, game fishing, this might not be the best kind of sugegstion for you This is for the laid-back fisherman who wants to go to the beach, sit back, cast some lines out, and get on to a lot of fish! This is for the dinner fishermen, people who want to catch fish for fun, and for food So there's always the classic sand flea Sand fleas live on the beach, under the sand, near where the surf breaks you can find them by digging them, or you can have–you can buy one of these sand flea rakes

Which, basically, I'll show you in a second how I catch sand fleas Actually, I'll show you right now So, you've gotta look at the waves, at the sand near the waves, you'll see them scattering under the sand Look! Look at that! It's full of fleas! [Brendon's Dad:] Wash it off, the sand, in the water there! Look at all those fleas! Now, this is one of the best baits for the beach Because they live right next to all the fish, the fish love feeding on these

So, it's really simple to use sand fleas There's no–nothing really important you need to know, you just hook on a sand flea You can do one, you can do two A lot of times, I do two and a lot of different kinds of fish will bite a sand flea! Now, I'm using this sand flea on a Pomp Boss Rig I got them from nativesaltclamcom, the rig works really well for the beach, I mean it's got these little beads, and it's got a floatie on it, (but you can take it off of you don't like it) The idea behind these beads, and the color, the chartreuse and the orange, is, it's supposed to mimic the underbellies of the sand fleas, a lot of times they're orange under here with eggs, and this flashy color will attract the fish

Woah! Anything on? On? Big hit? On?? Seaweed! Ooooh! Look what I got! What do you have? Oh yeah What is that? What the–? Sand perch? No Look at that–look at that nose! What the–?! Wait, what is that? Look at that, look at the nose

That is a really strange looking fish Do we have any guesses as to what kind of fish this is? I've never seen a fish like this before, comment below, let us know Now, every one of these baits have their own pros and cons list

The sand flea works really well, however, um, one: they're not always at the beach, two: they seem to be picked off pretty easily, and three: they die pretty easily The second bait that I want to recommend is Fish Bites! They come in a variety of different scents and flavors, um, and the thing with Fish Bites is they're very tough, and they stay on the hook real well Let me show you

It looks like a stick of gum! But inside is like, is some kind of mesh You can see, there's mesh in it You see? And you put a strip on and, believe it or not, it works pretty well It's actually– There are reports of Fish Bites catching fish all over the world, and um, I really think that if you want convienience and you don't want to have to buy um, blood worms or like, stuff that'll perish, stuff that you have to refrigerate, this is a good bet, which leads me to one of my favorite baits at the beach, now, this product, Native Salt Clam Bait, I use it all the time, and for those of you who've seen it, you guys know that it catches a lot of fish The greatest thing about this bait is that it smells great, it's–it's tough, not as tough as the Fish Bites, but it's tough, um, so it'll stay on the hook well, and it catches a lot of fish! –And the combination of these two on the same hook works really well

These two work really well if you're trying to catch dinner fish, if you're trying to catch some fish to eat um, these two work really well in combination or individually So, let's see how these baits work, I'll show you guys how I hook it up Come on So today we're with the maker of Salt Clams, and he's giving us a lot of good tips, and uh, he's a pretty fun guy to fish with Right now, I think he's using his own Pomp Boss Rigs and um, Salt Clams, um, he's got three rods out, take a look

Look at those rods They're so long! They're huge! Wait, look Look how tall it is! Look at this bird! It's only got one foot! I've got a pretty long rod myself, I mean, it's not that long, nine foot, um, but if you notice, we all have long rods out here, we-you need a long rod to be able to cast it out! If you have a short, little inshore rod, it's not going to work really well– you can catch fish still, but look at this, come here Look at how long this is right here An inshore rod gets cut off here

You need this extra bit for more leverage, and if you have a fish on, you stick this between your legs and you start crankin' See? Woah, Killian's got one! Nice! That's a good eatin' fish Nice whiting We can definitely eat this one Yeah, let's eat that

You were casting right beyond the break? Just beyond the- uh, the drop off Okay 'Cause they cruise around here and eat those coquina clams that live in here, sand fleas and stuff, even during the day, 'cause the big one's'll– I'll catch them in my cast net sometimes up in the wash Wow There's a lot of sand fleas

You're just putting big chunks of clam on, huh? Yeah, not too big, too much is really a waste, I kind of waste it 'cause I make it, you know, if I was buying it I'd be using half these size chunks and catching more fish, I'd imagine, 'cause they can't really get this in their mouth so good, a half of this sized piece on here they just put it all in their mouth and get hooked right away, but this a lot of times they'll pull it off, so by doing this, I'm actually lowering my chances of catching fish Well you just caught one, so something's working, ha ha Yeah! That's true Can catch fish Um, did you say you didn't even cast it very far? No, not at all, she saw where I put it, but I put it–there's a drop off here, where it finally drops off, where the last break is, it goes like 4 or 5 feet, Uh huh

Right behind that drop off, so You can see–right– right there! And back Okay It's a real good drop off, and you want to be on the other side of it So it's like a trough It's a trough, exactly

It's a drop off It's a trough, and fish– with a trough and it starts right where the break is –and bigger fish will swim and hunt for food in that trough Correct, definitely, and they also eat the coquina clams and other types of clams which live here naturally, you'll find them in whiting stomachs all the time, Ahh Uh, they eat the sand fleas, they eat shrimp– So whitings love clam? They love clam, it's their natural forage That's what they eat every day is clams

Alright You open them up, they're full of clams sometimes Alright, I'mma– The little ones that live on the beach I'm going to put a triple threat on Clam, sand fleas, and shrimp, all on one hook, let's see what happens

Alright You'll probably get a catfish A catfish? Well, we'll see, ha ha ha, What do I know? So I've got Salt Clams on, I'm going to put a sand flea on at the same time, oh yeah Salt Clam // Sand Flea combination! Let's see what happens Dad, he said that dont cast it very far

this first trough right here Whoo!! The first trough! It was right on the first trough, you were right, Killian! Catfish! You were right about that, too! Oh my gosh! Ha ha! Oh my gosh No

Spanish Pompano Maybe the Senko viewers can do a, uh, ID

on this one Ok So, if you know what kind of fish this is, please comment below, it looks kind of like a pompano Yeah, yeah, I believe it's a Spanish Pompano or a Palmetto, something like that, Alright, please comment below if you can identify this fish No size limit Awesome So what are we going to do? I usually throw them back, 'cause they're so small Yeah, yeah
