How to Tie the Clouser Minnow Fly – Saltwater and fresh water streamer fly

Today we are going to tie the Clouser minnow arguably one of the most popular and versatile streamer patterns ever made Originally created back in the 80's by Bob Clouser, a legendary fly tier, instructor and fisherman We will start by wrapping our thread halfway to the bend of the hook Prepare your hook for tying in a dumbbell eye Select the dumbbell size

Smaller dumbbells will allow the fly to sink slower, larger eyes will sink faster The choice is up to you Tie in your dumbbell For more detailed information on tying in dumbbells properly, click the video link above Now cut and prepare your buck-tail (for more information on preparing bucktail, click the video link above) The thickness of your buck tail will depend on how bushy or thin you want your fly I am using about a half of a pencil thickness To tie in your bucktail easily, make two loose wraps, then tighten the thread

Make sure the bucktail is sitting on top of the hook, and not covering the eye of the hook Make a few wraps to lock the bucktail in place Now pull your bucktail tight, and wrap behind the dumbbells and to about half way to the bend of the hook We will now be tying on the other side, so flip your fly over in the vice Measure another chunk of bucktail, and prepare it for tying in When tying in, make sure the bucktail is sitting on top of the hook Now we will tie in a bit of flash

I am going to use a chartreuse krystal flash I tie in the flash at the center of the bunch Then pull the other side over, and lock it into place Now we will tie in the back color bucktail after preparing it In this case I am using chartreuse It is important to prepare this clump properly or you will not get a nice tapered head on your fly Refer to my "preparing bucktail" video link at the top if you do not already know how to do this

We will want to build a nice tapered head on the fly, and cover all the bucktail tightly Now we can whip finish the fly While not 100% necessary, to finish this fly, I like to add a bit of Epoxy In this case I am using UV curing epoxy because its much easier than the mixing stuff Make sure that the threads are covered completely before curing You can also add a drop of super glue, or paint on some head cement But I find epoxy looks nicer, and is more durable

This fly is one of those flies that is almost always in my box They are great for fishing most saltwater, and fresh water fish It really is one of the most versatile streamer patterns ever created If you like this sorta thing, subscribe to my channel And leave your questions in the comment section below Now get off your butt and go catch some fish!

Do I need a saltwater or freshwater license?

So a common question that FWC gets asked is when to use a saltwater fishing license or a freshwater fishing license So if you are fishing in brackish water, for example, and you catch a freshwater species, you would need a freshwater fishing license to keep that fish

You may catch red drum in brackish water for instance, which is considered saltwater so therefore you would need a saltwater fishing license For more information or for clarification you can visit MyFWCcom/Fishing

A Louisiana Saltwater Marsh Adventure

(gentle piano music) (music swells to upbeat orchestration) (funky blues guitar music) – [Voiceover] Venice, Louisiana, redfish capital of the world Wade and some of the Cabela's pro-staff have wrapped up the Cabela's Partnership Summit, and now we're takin' the few extra days to fish the bountiful marshes of Louisiana

– [Man] Louisiana marshes are a great favorite a great passion of mine, a great destination for me every year I love to get down there And when I have an opportunity to go sight-fishing or somewhat sight-casting for reds, I absolutely get so excited And that's why when I'm running in the marshes or I'm casting and looking in the marshes, every turn of the head, every direction I look I expect to see one floatin' there And when you're doin' this sight-fishing techniques in and around Venice, you know a lot of times you're looking for shadows, you're looking for shapes, you're looking for color changes and stuff

It's not always the prototypical tailing scenario that you see here that you're dreaming of It's just targeting a spot or movements or things that look like that redfish And there's so many different ways to do that when it comes to being a fisherman Whether you're throwing, you know, soft plastics, whether you're throwing spoons, whether you're tossin' top-water baits, whatever it may be out in front of 'em When you get one to turn on it it's an instantaneous strike and reaction that leaves your mind boggled and excited and always lookin' for the next one

– Ohhh yes! (laughter) – That's a big 'un there (chuckles heartily) – Now that's a big 'un, you want me to net him? (laughs) – How am I gonna get him if I never get him up? (upbeat jazzy music) – How pretty is that? – Ow – Awesome – Man That'll catch you off-guard when you just

We're kinda up here looking for 'em in shallow water And I was lookin' up there on the bank, just threw kinda out in the middle of that grass and reeled us some spinner bait through there and I mean, Hey Chris will you get the pliers? – Yep – Get this grass off him

Man, what a beautiful fish (underwater sounds) – Whew! Time for another one – Let's get this done – Turn me into a caravan, that one there was so pretty I couldn't resist gettin' some shots a him – [Jeff] That was a pretty one there

I mean that big ol' orange color, it never gets old I love that color of those – You know the only problem with that? – What's that? – You'll probably be in trouble cause that was a keeper – Oh, was it really? (laughing) – Oh, he is going to be mad at me (laughing) – No deer camp food

– [Jeff] You know one of the greatest things about going to Louisiana is the ability to catch keepers and fill your freezer, in my opinion That's one of the things I look forward to The summer-time aspect of it is going on down there and catching those keeper-sized reds Typically you're going to be catching those inside the marsh and we're taking 'em back and we'll cook 'em at deer camp, right in the middle of deer season You know, be out deer-hunting and come in great fish-fry after some cool deer-hunts right there at the camp

So, anytime I get a chance to head to Louisiana and look at fillin' my freezer, I'm always excited about that You know when you get in a shallow-water fishing situation and you're trying to spot the fish, you're trying to look for holes in the grass, you're trying to look for targets and things along those lines When it's cloudy it makes it very difficult to be able to find success to be able to see those fish So you know, you're trying to get that sun at the perfect angle, you're trying to block some of that wind while you're looking and while it is hunting in it's purest form sometimes it can also be frustrating – So I mean you got like, 30-seconds to look then the sun goes behind the clouds

– Well the wind is hurtin' it too It's as bad, in sight-fishing you got wind like this make's it real tough – [Jeff] Yep – Thing about it is you know there's several hundred swimmin around out there It's just a matter of spotting one and gettin him in front of you

– [Jeff] Yep – There's so many marshes in Louisiana All over it can be we go fish and do this, you don't have to have the biggest boat in the world, that's where some of the aluminums play a big factor – [Voiceover] And when we return we'll see the newest Ranger aluminum boat in action All that and more on the Cabela's Fisherman's Handbook

– [Voiceover] The fisherman's handbook is brought to you in part by Cabela's, it's in your nature Yamaha Marine, reliability starts here And by Ranger Boats, still building legends, one at a time (soft rock music) – [Voiceover] Wade and the Cabela's pro staff are out here fishing in the shallow marshes of Louisiana Jeff Reynolds and Clark Wendlandt have decided to go out in a Ranger aluminum boat to see how it handles these shallow waters

– We're in Venice, Louisiana with my great friend Jeff Reynolds Just a couple of bass fishermen coming down here to see if we can catch some redfish Oughta be fun – Oh man is this place not off the chart? I mean, just all kinds of fish there's bass down here, redfish, flounder There's no telling what we might catch, but I don't think we care

– We don't care We're gonna catch whatever we can We're gonna haul 'em in, we're gonna eat 'em But the thing about it is, we're just bass fishermen and what we're here to see if we can do is, is use more or less bass techniques and see if we can figure out how to catch redfish – Absolutely

I mean this is gonna be fun It's heavy-line, the way both me and you both like to fish Power-fishing you know, throwin' spinner baits or swim baits, or something like that Braided line, big rods, force 'em out That's gonna be fun

– Let's do it The opportunity to go fishing with Jeff in Venice, to me, I mean, I knew it was gonna be perfect Put on top of that we're in the Ranger aluminum and that boat drafts really shallow I've had an opportunity to fish it a little bit in Texas in saltwater, and I love that boat It runs rough water really well

It gets really, really shallow – You know the aluminum line of boats that Ranger, just, I mean, unbelievable How shallow they float, the way they're built, the storage they have in them We have plenty of room for our tackle, our rod and reels, our cooler We had all the room we needed

It's just a great-built boat You'll see on the show, some of the water we were getting into, gets down to real skinny water, rows of cane everywhere, grass everywhere And to float that boat around in there and catch some of them reds, I mean, what a blast – There's a bull right there – Oh man

– You got it – There he is (laughs) – Dude, he knocked slack in that thing and missed it and then came back and got it (laughing) – He hit it so hard – Jeff swings his spinner bait up there, shallow cane I mean perfect, and one just smokes that spinner bait

I mean, smokes it And when I say smoke it, when he bit it he moved so far, Jeff thought he missed the bait and he's sitting there reeling trying to catch up with him – I mean you're kinda at their mercy when you hook into one of these – Hey, it's a good one Aww

(laughs) (soft rock music) – You know Clark, I mean you could come down here with any type of tackle and do this Bass tackle and your rod and reels works fine But it does make a difference to be equipped right To fight these big suckers, cause they, you've got to have a reel that's got the good drag on it And a rod that can handle it

Look at that, it'nt that pretty? (chuckles) – That's a start – Ow! Did you see him bite me? – Best get yourself a pair of pliers too cause you will use 'em a bunch – Look at that That's awesome man – That's a good way to start the day

– It's a perfect way – Hey, when you been out here for 10 minutes and you catch one like that you kinda know it's gonna be a good day – Oh yeah (laughter) – He gonna be over – Agh

– We're gonna have to let him go – That's hardly the case, for me, is catching them to big but, hey, it's still fun Mr Red, I appreciate it buddy He still had plenty a fight left in him

Usually these things fight so hard they wear theirself out because it may take you five or ten minutes to get one in It just depends on how hard they want to fight But a lot of times what you wanna do when you put 'em in the water, grab 'em by the tail and just like let 'em swim around a little bit help 'em swim around a little bit till they get going and they'll take off theirself like you seen him do He just I didn't fight him long enough – You know these baits I've cut these last couple on is just a big-bite baits is what they are and it's just the small king-thumper and I mean they get tore-up pretty good but, the thing is they're so soft they have a lot of action And I never mind sacrificing baits, to catch fish It's just the price you gotta pay for soft baits

You go through a lot of them, but, they catch fish That's pretty much it Throw it out there and reel it in and hang on – Alright, I'm ready for another one – Let's do it

– [Voiceover] More action from the marshes of Louisiana when we return, here on the Cabela's Fisherman's Handbook The Fisherman's Handbook is brought to you in part by Garmin, fight your fish, not your fish-finder Bradley Smoker, food smoking made easy Engel Coolers, a legend in reliability Sawyer products, we keep you outdoors

(rock music) – [Wade] You know one of the most awesome things about fishing in Venice, Louisiana area is basically, frankly anywhere in Louisiana, is the opportunity to get in those marshes and catch keeper-size redfish I mean those marshes, when you right pond, are absolutely teeming with them And what we do with them is basically we're trying to get a few keepers to put in the freezer and bring back for hunting season when we'll have some giant fish-frys out around the deer camp That's a big passion of ours and it's something we look forward to doing fishing-wise in August and then enjoying them come November and December So Jeff and I literally are trying to get out into the marshes as well as David and Clark and fill the freezer on this type of a fishing trip

– Uh oh, fish on! – Get him on that line – Must be a bass – No that's a good red – Good red, dinnertime red – Can I net him for you? – Yeah, he's a good one

I can get him Jeff – Sure? – Yeah Lot on the boat's slip and go This is where we got our bites the other day Come here marsh redfish, oh look at that

That's awesome Come here buddy, ah yeah, look at that – Good one! – Oh it's so fun down here in the marsh That is very enjoyable right there I like to catch them bulls and I like to catch 'em in the marsh

Thank you Mr Redfish – Catch him on spinner-bait? – Yep, on spinner-bait Just lettin' it pause down there, fallin' down in there and he cracked it Twenty-four, bout perfect eatin' size right there

We'll take him home to dinner That was fun, you know when you get out here in this marsh and you get a look around back here it's like your kind of at the end of the world, it's a paradise! And it's one of my favorite paradises to go fishing when you can get in the marsh and you get to see all the wildlife and everything that goes on and come in here and just cast around and go fish Sometimes you can sight-cast 'em sometimes you're blind-casting in the cane Right now we're fishing a way outgoing tide you can actually see it on the Garmin where the tide shows you how fast it's falling You get all the grass in this area I mean, when you hit the right little hole and flood it up bait-down, nothing about it

– [Wade] I mean you never know when you're in Louisiana when you're gonna be in three-foot one minute and two hours later it may be six-inches of water when the tide falls out And if you're somebody like me that don't keep up with the tides, you can get stranded in a hurry – What we're trying to do right now literally in this marsh, is monitor what the tides do in it You can look it up at different places, we've actually got it on our Garmin so it tells us the exact date, what the tide's doing where we're at You can actually always look at it and see exactly where you are for that day's tide

And right now we're on a fallen tide which should help clear this pond up back here and you know, how this tide falling out will funnel a lot of these fish through here and clean this water up where maybe we can sight-fish as the day goes on But, you know you look at that tool of that Garmin there and being able to see exactly what the stage is, when it's gonna bottom out, when it's gonna be a high tide, is such valuable information right at your fingertips for each and every day I mean, it tells you by the minute, for lack of a better Here's where you are on the tide – [Voiceover] Let's check in with Clark Wendvendt and David Walker as they seem to have benefitted from the falling tide as well

– He sure is – There's the other one too – Yep – Now he's fixing to get mad – Oh yeah! (laughter) – Yes! – Wait a minute though

– Alright Clark Tell you what (rock music) We would be pretty excited about this one That, that is a nice one And here we are Clark, doing a little exploring, I think you picked a good spot

(laughter) well hey, it's just covering water, that's all it is That's what we do in bass-fishing I mean when we find fish people think, "Well hey, it's rocket science" But it's not, it's covering water is what it is – Keep moving in there, you get rewarded

– That one we keep, you think? – I don't know, we gotta measure him – Yeah, let's measure him, that board's right there – He's beautiful – I think he's sunburned, put a little sunblock on him – He is twenty-seven and a half

– Nah they gotta be under twenty-seven – That's what he is, twenty-seven and a half Alrighty, here we go Great looking fish right there, and we're gonna let him grow up to be one of those forty-pounders that are out there (laughs) That was kinda fun

Think I'll do that again – [Voiceover] We wrap up our trip in Louisiana when the Cabela's Fisherman's Handbook returns The Fisherman's Handbook is brought to you in part by, Arctic Ice, we put the "cool" in coolers Bubba Blade, the ultimate sportsmans knife and carving machine Spro, sports professionals

– You know sight-fishing for redfish I mean that's a huge passion of mine And if you've ever done it one time and you seen one redfish react to it it's something you'll wanna do time and time again In the marshes in and around Venice are perfectly set up and situated for that type of fishing There's gonna be areas where you're gonna find clean water, you're gonna find areas where the tide may have muddied it up or the wind may have changed it So you're kinda bobbing and weaving you're covering a lot of ground looking for the right location

But when you can find the right little pocket it might be a dead-end canal, it might be the back of a little pond, it might just be a little point in one of the big ponds there When you can find a location that's holding a lot of redfish and you can see 'em floatin out there, and you can make a cast that has one of those big reds turn and react to the bait, you're hooked for life – There's one – Get on big guy (jazzy blues guitar) – Get a net on him? – I got it, he's a small one

But I think he's a good eater – I tell you that's half the battle right now (chuckles) – Heck yeah Such a fun bite, they knock so much slack in your line when you're reeling through there – Boy they do

That is fun I'm a cane thumper Well we we're hopin' to get in here and sight-fish some of these, but as you can see it's lot a clouds, so should check around hope we can catch one – Only thing about down here you're gonna wanna hydrate every time you go out We'll take a case, case and a half of water fill it up in our cooler, throw a couple Arctic Ice in there, that's kinda the way we prepare for a full day on the water

When we go out, throw some snacks in there I got some leftover hamburgers that Angie made earlier for us That way we can make it an all-day trip and know everything's gonna be fresh and cold – I tend to always end up in Venice, Louisiana at least one time each year And there's a lot of great reasons why

It's widely regarded as the redfish capital of the world And that's a well-earned and rightfully so title because it's just an area that for whatever reason the redfish call home – [Voiceover] That'll do it for us here on Cabela's Fisherman's Handbook, we'll see ya next time (easy upbeat music) – I think they'll be back there in the back Sometimes when you're fishing with your friends you gotta take a break and let him do all the work

He's drying up the troll motor right now look at him he's getting all the grass off of it But, I'm back here enjoying a drink I kinda feel bad, but, not really

Bass Anglers for Saltwater Conservation Off Shore Fishing Port O Connor

– [Narrator] From CarecoTV, one of the longest running outdoor programs on television today Exploring the country, and the coast in search of adventure

From the mountains of the great north west to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean This is Americana Outdoors, presented by Garmin This week we're gonna take a closer look at the Bass Anglers for Saltwater Conservation, also known as Bass for Salt We're headed up to the Yamaha Midwest Media Event in Bay Harbor, Michigan to join Americana Outdoors Wade Middleton, who takes the pledge to support Bass for Salt program Now it's been said that America's sportsmen are the original conservationists

Anglers have a special connection to nature that requires us to respect our natural resources and fight for their conservation But we also have an obligation to other anglers on the water to practice safe boating habits Likewise we should always be an example to the community by making sure we have the proper credentials to participate in our sport And by getting involved in the policy discussions that affect recreational anglers – This is an amazing initiative that we're doing to get the word out to just normal Americans of what they can do to support and defend their right to fish

Well what you do with the website is, there's some great issues on there that you can read about, if you want to just quickly make a difference, you can click on send a letter and that will bring up a pre-written letter, you can enter your information, read that letter off and then just hit submit Boom, it will send right over to your representatives You know really, everyone who's an angler is part of a brotherhood of people who fish, and it's so important that we help each other out If something's going on in their body of water we should be there for them and maybe they'll be there for us Also you don't tend to think about it but saltwater actually affects everyone

Here in the Midwest where we are right now is where we make our props So, if they're not allowed to fish, that actually impacts jobs all over the nation – [Narrator] After bass season is over, Bassmaster Elite Series, Jeff Kriet, who also is a long time supporter of Bass for Salt, meets up with his good friends Derick Kuyrkendall and Jeff Welch at Port O'Connor, Texas for an off-shore fishing trip (upbeat music) – You know we're here at probably my favurite place in the world, everybody talks about man caves and stuff A couple of buddies of mine and I built this place and you see we like to fish in the saltwater, so when we're down here this is the getaway, it's the getaway from fishing the tour and all the other stuff

So when we come here, this is our happy place (upbeat music) This is the bottom dropping tamping ship of the world is what this is You've got Derick, you got the Port O'Connor full time guy so if we don't catch anything, it's all on him – So what happens when I win this? – If you win this, you become, you win the title of ultimate bottom dropper for the day – For the day? (laughter) – Over maybe the past 20 years, I've had saltwater boats and they keep getting a little bigger and a little bigger and a little bigger and a little bigger and now we have that boat, you know, which is powered by four Yamaha 300 horsepowers and I keep wanting to go a little farther out and a little further

And we kinda went back to old school with a couple of my best friends and we ran out, and we ran out about maybe you know, 60 miles and fished some old numbers we used to fish, trying to catch what would ever be, you know that's what was fun about it, we didn't really care – How many points are blue runners? – [Jeff] Blue runners, no points no points Hey, here's the deal, every blue – No points on bait – Every blue runner means something big What we're doing right now, we're stopping on the up current side of these rigs and we're trying to catch what we call blue runners or hardtails

And we'll go out to these wrecks and rocks that we fish and drop that down and the group or everything eats a blue runner They're real tough, they're real hardy, they're just really great bait (upbeat music) – Perfect I'll be completely honest with you, the funnest thing to catch is bait It pulls just hard enough to be fun, but not so hard that you don't want to catch another one

Look at her, oh gosh Alright, we got some bait now, we're gonna head out to the shelf and see what we can catch So the beauty of it is, I'm gonna go right back there, I'm gonna hit navigate to, go to, I'm gonna engage that autopilot and I'm gonna let it drive me right to it, because I can promise you it'll save me probably five miles as zig-zaggy as I'd be – [Narrator] Log onto bassforsaltcom and find out what you can do to defend our right to participate in the sport we love

– Americana Outdoors presented by Garmin is brought to you by Garmin Fight your fish, not your fish finder Cabela's it's in your nature Ranger Boats, still building legends, one at a time And by Yamaha Marine, reliability starts here

(upbeat music) Hey, welcome back to Americana Outdoors We're 60 miles away from the shore of Port O'Connor, Texas Jeff Kreit, a professional bass angler and a longtime supporter of Bass for Salt, gets together with his friends for a fun offshore fishing down on the gulf – Yamaha wrapped the big boat and as you can see it says Bass Angler for Saltwater Conservation And people get kind of confused about that out here saltwater fishing, people ask me all the time

Basically, it is for the rights of the fishermen, the recreational fishermen It is your voice to be heard to protect your rights to fish It's simple, go to bassforsaltcom, you put your name on there, your email address and you click, basically send and there is a letter already written for you by the organization What it does is it targets important things that you as a recreational fisherman would never hear about

So you will get the letter, you can read about it or whatever And then you just hit send, boom, that letter's going to your representative Otherwise, he has no idea even what it is So it's your voice as a recreational fisherman, there is no reason not to log on and be proactive on this, it's just too easy (upbeat music) We're out here in about 320 foot of water

We're real close to the shelf, we can catch marlin and everything out here but drop some piggy perch and some spoons and just see what we can catch What you got? – Bottom – Bottom? – Really enjoyed doing that, especially after the bass season's over, fishing season because we're gonna get a lot of bites, we're gonna get our arms wore out, everybody in the boat's gonna catch fish, it's a bunch of good friends And bottom line is we're gonna have something to eat, and we're gonna have a good time – What you fishing for Welch? What you trying to catch today? – What's the highest point? – The highest point is a Warsaw

– Definitely a Warsaw – I'll lose the three points if he'll find a big Warsaw – You know the deal is, Welch, I don't know if anybody's ever seen it, if y'all have ever watched those strongman competitions where they, he's a crossfit world champion (laughter) These guys are throwing live bait, I'm throwing artificial, I'm a bass fishing guy, tournament guy, so I don't use live bait – unless they start to bite them better I'm switching fast (laughter) You know I see one little old speck down there, it's a little, it's a, I can tell by the way he showed up, it was a single Yellowedge grouper

Welch is hooked up – Welch is on – What you on the bottom? – No, man I'm going snappy snap – [Jeff] You need me to get you like a granola bar, a power bar or anything? – I need something – [Jeff] You need a wet towel? – I may here in a minute

– Do you think there's a chance it can be an endangered red snapper? – There's a high chance – [Jeff] I tell you on thing, you can see those muscles bulging right now – Are my muscles twitching a little bit? – [Jeff] Yeah you got to see them Think he's gonna blow his shirt up I see color, man, maybe

– [Derick] Red snapper – [Jeff] Maybe it's a groupie grouper – Oh it's a jammer red snapper Man – [Derick] Well, you just lost some points on that one, that's a dud

– We're gonna let this fella go – [Welch] Yeah – There he goes – Here's the deal, I know you couldn't keep that snapper, and I know you'd love to put him in the oven wouldn't you – [Welch] Favorite eating fish there is

– My favorite eating fish there is But we can't, because there's not enough of them – [Welch] There's a shortage of red snappers – There's a shortage of red snappers so we have to release them into the wild – Let me rephrase that, there's a shortage of red snapper for the recreational angler

– There's plenty red snapper for the commercial people – There's sarcasm going on right now, we're being all a little sarcastic I apologize, but it was fun wasn't it – [Welch] It was great – Well, treading hazard of minus one – Hang on, when we left the dock is was plus one

– Yeah you're right – [Derick] Left the dock with what? – Snappers were one – Oh I said he got – [Welch] Yeah yeah you're not the captain – Just see how he does, if he catches another one it's a judge

– We'll have to change these rules – [Narrator] A fun fishing day turned into a mini championship tournament, we'll be right back Stay tuned Americana Outdoors presented by Garmin, is brought to you by, Big Bite Baits, designed to bring the big bite to your line Gill, respect the elements

And by Sawyer products, Sawyer, we keep you outdoors (rock music) Welcome back to Americana Outdoors Well today we're joining Jeff Kreit, Derick Kuyrkendall and Jeff Welch for offshore fishing, about 60 miles from Port O'Connor, Texas (rock music) – It's almost a mini competition every time we go fishing, any time we do anything if we go to the store it's a competition so it's fun out here, it's relaxed but the competitive nature's still there The biggest thing I like about offshore is that you get away

I mean, you may see a boat, you may not, it adds a little risk, extra risk to it, but we kind of mitigate that by the redundancy in the boat and EPIRBs and life rafts and extra life jackets but just, you're out there by yourself And this boat that we currently have is, it's powered by quad 300, quad 300 Yamahas We've got the helm master on and it's a beast – I mean they've got it loaded with killer electronics on there I mean it's safe as you can be, you can have no worries really when you go out there, you have motors, back ups, electronics, you have radar, autopilot, the whole nine yards

Incredible boat (rock music) – Hooked up – [Jeff] What does it feel like? – A fish (laughter) – Did he get it? He got him – Fish is bloated up, he's coming up

Come on be a grouper It's a large red snapper, it definitely is red snapper Wires, do you need 'em? – [Jeff] I don't think so – [Derick] Welch got one? – Yeah he's been fighting one for about 45 minutes – You say four or five minutes? (laughter) Beautiful American red snapper

– Come on you guys catch something that we want to eat, or something really big so I can make fun of you while you fight it – And it's a red snapper – [Jeff] Big one or little one? – Perfect eating size – Someone come and unhook the head on this or I'm gonna go right through the little meat right behind his head there Right below the dorsal fin

We're going for a big one here with big perch – Oh another one, Welch is on Oh we got a double hook up – [Welch] Red snapper Good eating fish, I'm up at least

– [Derick] Three points – 19 snapper, Kreit has none, Derick has one, so I'm gonna say I'm up 18 – [Derick] It can't count either Why you crying over there Kreit? – I'm not crying yet I don't have a snapper

Hey give me a ball buster dude Come on man – Hey suddenly we're buddies Two minutes ago we weren't friends, now all of a sudden we're buddies? Hey Kreit – Just give me a gimbal I hear you

– You're not gonna have any more kids – I know – I'm calling this Camp Grouper, I loaded up with little bit smaller perch on there Oh it's looking like a red snapper – It's not a giant

– There he is – That's a three pointer boys – [Derick] Oh amberjack's probably about as mean as I'll get honestly, and that's a little guy – Three points – Alright here he goes

– I came over those fish just a second ago and they weren't there, and I guess catching that fish brought 'em all up There's a bunch right there we should get bit – Whatever I've got is big I might need the ball buster (laughter) [Derick] Come on be brown

– It's not an AJ It's a grouper We got some meat, it's a big guy – Five points – Alright

– Five points to Welchy, that is fine bittles right there – Get old Kreiter in here – You know what that is, that's good eating right there That's fine table fare – That is bittles, that is some fine bittles right there

– Into the ice – Hey hey hey Oh it's a big one – You want it to be a snapper? – [Jeff] You know those fish out there, they're so strong I guess because they're always, for one, having to move, they're having to move with the bait, they're always moving and there's always something bigger out there that will eat them I guess They're just mean and now you put that fish three or four hundred feet down on the bottom, it makes it twice as hard

So if you've never been you have to go I could never explain to somebody how hard something feels They have to see it for themselves and I can't imagine anybody not wanting to go out there at least one time Now if you get sick, at least you did it once But I guess I love it too much to get sick

Every time I get a little on him he runs all my drag off Look at all that – Seriously? – He broke me off – [Narrator] Americana Outdoors will be right back, after these messages Americana Outdoors presented by Garmin, has been brought to you by, Bubba Blade, the ultimate sportsmans knife

Power-pole, swift, silent, secure And by, Spro, sports professionals – Got a bite? – [Narrator] Welcome back to Americana Outdoors, Bass Anglers for Saltwater Conservations mission is to bring all anglers together, regardless of where they fish or what they fish for To defend our right to participate in the sport we love – Thing we represent right now is that Bass for Salt, Yamaha initiative along with some other partners but nice thing about it is they're watching for us

Us working guy that love to come out and do this whether it's fresh water, salt water They're watching the issues, the access issues, the fishing issues, the limit issues And it's a real quick deal, bassforsaltcom It's our voice being heard in the US Senate

And it allows us to come out and do this, what we look forward to, it's what keeps us going during the week, catch fish just like that, allows us angler to come out here, and gives us that right, just one other tool that lets the fishermen's voice be heard – In case you've never been offshore, don't stick your hand in the mouth of a red snapper You see those teeth hanging on there? They will tear you up – Well we're running two 7616's which are 16 inch screens, right now I've got my navigation chart on this side and I'm running, big group of fish right there on the bottom, big group, and then we're running just our sonar here We also run Garmin Open Array Radar, Garmin Auto Pilot, everything is all linked together

And really, out here, you have to have good electronics otherwise it's a pretty big area so to be able to drive straight to your spot and look at your graph and see your fish is a good thing and the Garmin does it – Goin' AJ boys – Nice, is that the biggest one of the day? – I think so – No – Yeah definitely

– Sure, yeah biggest one by far You're whooping us all Here, your weight Hold your weight – Are you being sarcastic or do you realize you're getting your butt kicked? – I've been driving this sucker all day

I've made about five drops and I've got hooked up every time So let's not go there too much (laughter) – Was that in the rules earlier? – Well I can either fish or I can drive, it's up to you – Alright I'm gonna hold you on a drift – Okay

– Here you go – That's fine – Kreit, he doesn't like to lose So we're gonna give him an opportunity to redeem himself, I'm gonna say he's gonna get a one point fish, probably a little snapper about like that Then he's gonna blame, watch this, he's gonna blame it on me for the line

– Please be a grouper That's the big one of the day though – [Welch] That's what I said about mine – No but it really is the biggest one of the day – [Welch] As I said, everything's a competition, so, the nice thing about having the camera there is that we got the pre-tournament meeting, so then we could see the tournament, have the post-tournament

Because the rules as you saw kind of changed throughout the day, but the camera's gonna vindicate that I won and pretty handily, I think I even took about a two hour break at the end there – According to Welch he won, according to Big D Ol' Derick, he won, according to me, I think for time spent fishing I won So in my mind I was the champion of the day for sure I mean I could have finished third, but I did drive the boat all day Getting to go fish with two of my best friends and go out with no pressure, absolutely no really no targeted species, it didn't matter and to just go out there and talk the smack and just get out to that blue water

I love getting out to that blue water, I mean it's my favorite place to be I've always told these guys, if something happens to me, you guys take me to the furthest floating rig out there, go tuna fishing and then on your way in just kick me over, dump my ashes out there by one of those platforms There's no other place I'd rather be than 100, 200 miles offshore – [Narrator] Find out how you can support Bass for Salt and let your representatives know what you think about the sport you love Go to bassforsalt

Beginner Beach Fishing Tips: Using Plugs and Lures

I think it's gone- no it's still here! Yea-heah! That's what I'm talking about! That top water bite is so fun! Day one in Florida! We flew down to, um, Orlando yesterday, and this morning we are out on the surf trying to catch some fish! This month, the Senko Skipper team is in Florida on a mission to create videos to help the world learn more about salt water fishing We're here to explore one of the world's most fantastic fishing locations, and document the fascinating world of fish that live in Florida's oceans

So stay tuned for a month filled with great fishing, monster fish, and all the methods you need to start catching them yourselves I am using what's called a "Gibbs Bottle Popper" Gibbs is the brand, and this is called a bottle popper, and what you want to do is work it side to side when you're out on the water It makes a whole bunch of splashing, fish will see that there's splashing above and come up and strike it! So, the goal with this is to cast it far, it's pretty heavy, probably 2 ounces right here Try and get it out as far as you can

So you'll want to catch out as far as you can because it basically allows you more opportunity for a fish to see your lure Basically, the further you cast the better chance you have of hooking up on a fish Right now I've got a 9-foot, medium power St Croix Mojo Surf I mean, it's not like the greatest rod out there but it's a great, affordable beginner rod

If you want to start getting into plugging, like I am, I just started getting into this and it's very rewarding, but, uh, it can be tricky So my plug is out there, I'm going to keep a tense line and look at my hand

I'm making this funny motion and I'm reeling it at the same time Nice and slow Something was chasing my bait the whole way back! You could see the fish jumping out, did you see it?! Yeah, I saw it! This thing causes a whole bunch of commotion at the surface of the water, and it will draw the fish up! Hi! I got a fish on! I have no idea what it is something small Bluefish! Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, look at it's jaw Rippin' lips! Woah! Christian, it you're watching this, remember you told me about ripping lips? Look at that! Ha, I set the hook too hard oh my god, I ripped it's lips

This is a bluefish! What I think is really interesting is how fishermen are basically constantly trying to think like the fish I mean, when you're out there on the beach in the morning, you see a lot of changes as time passes and the sun rises, and I think what many people don't really realize about fishermen is how connected they really are to nature I mean, they really try to understand why the fish think the way they do, behave they way they do, why they like to bit a lure near the surface

Does the splashing make them think it's an injured fish? I think it's gone- no it's still here! Yea-heah! That's what I'm talking about! That topwater bite is so fun! As soon as Brendon caught one fish on his popper, his friend, James, hooked up as well because when bluefish are present they're there in schools, and when you catch one you can expect to catch a lot, just wait for them to move through We doubled up! Whoo! Whoo-hoo! So, every fisherman that we've talked to, especially down here in Florida, they all hate bluefish Why does everyone hate bluefish? Is it just 'cause they're, like, annoying and you're going for other things and there are so many of them? That's my guess, that's what I've heard, but I want you guys to tell me if you like bluefish, if you hate bluefish, why? Comment below! Whip it! There you go! Now it's landed, close it

reel it Now, now you know how to work it, right? Yeah, I can't feel it It's okay, just make sure you have tension

You will very likely get a fish right now The bluefish are hitting real hard right now, they're all in here Uh huh Reel it in faster A little bit faster, there you go

How do I know how fast to reel it? Faster! You gotta– you want to try and keep it on the surface, and this thing sinks Ah! No wonder I can't see it! Oh! Ohhh! Hahaha! There you go, I told you! (Oh my gosh!) Set the hook harder! Urgh! There you go! Walk down, walk down! (Hahaha!) She got it! Wow! Ahh! I don't want to lose it! Oh, man! Bring it in, bring it in! Bring it in!! Nice!!! Alright girl, Good job! (Hah, haha!) Caught my first bluefish! That's your first bluefish? (Yeah, this is my first bluefish!) On topwater? Nice job! So, I changed it up Using a piece of tin now This thing is like, 3 ounces so it's basically a bullet when I cast it out Accompanied with my 9-foot rod, the reason it's so long is so you can cast it out real far, and, basically, you can fish different columns

1) You wanna just try and let it hit the bottom try and let it hit the bottom and then rip it up, just jig it up and down off the bottom Or, you could just swim it back What I like to do is bounce it off the bottom So here's my primary set up right now, I've got, uh, 40 lb

braid, you can use 20 if you want, um, and then I've got a line-to-line to 30 lb fluorocarbon and that is attached to your lure! and I've got this on a big, 8000 8000-sized reel Alright, excuse me I gotta go I gotta go catch another fish And just as it had been all morning, as soon as one person in our group found a fish, everyone else caught one as well Brendon's father, Michael, caught his bluefish on the same popper that I did, and we got that from Amazon, it's called the GT Ice Cream, and it's made of a super-hard plastic that bluefish's teeth can't break We hope, with this episode, that we helped some beginners learn the basics of beach fishing with plugs and lures So let us know if you've ever tried this kind of fishing, where you're from, what you've caught with it, or comment and tell us how you like to fish off the beach

We're here in Florida to explore one of the world's most fantastic fishing locations and document the fascinating world of fish that live in Florida's oceans So stay tuned, and hit that subscribe button for a month filled with really cool fishing, monster fish, and all the methods you need to start catching them yourselves

Florida Pier Fishing: The Majestic Cornet fish

When you’re fishing from a pier, timing is everything On a boat, you go to where the fish are

On a pier, you wait for the fish to come by This means you have to know when the tides are, what the weather conditions are like, and check with your local fishing reports Today is Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2017 We’re here in Florida trying to catch whatever bites We've got frozen clams for bait today! Supposedly pompano really like these, so, hopefully we can get a pompano, if not I'm sure everything else likes this

So, I'm just gonna cut you some little strips, like this So you can put it on your sabiki, and we're just trying to catch some bait fish right now It's like mystery fishing, when you throw a sabiki down there you don't know what you're gonna catch Fishing is a box of chocolates Everyone knows we love the sabiki for its convenience and ability to find fish, but I can’t feel them bite! They just keep stealing my bait! I guess I must be really bad at fishing Everything was eaten! OK, so what do you think is going on? (Why can't we see it?) I have no idea

Maybe a bunch of tiny fish eating it? We took a peek underwater, and discovered a whole world of pinfish, porkfish, jacks, and all other species of fish While there were schools of just fish below us, they didn't seem to be interested in our bait However, there was a fish in the water that that took someone elses’ bait (What the hell?) (Okay) Woah! Get that on footage! (What the hell?) (That is a pretty fish!) (Woah!) I'd never imagined to catch one of these things here! (Wow!) What is that? Now this, we believe is a Blue Spotted Cornetfish, a strange, long- bodied fish with an upturned snout at the end of a long, tubular mouth It can't hurt you or nothing, but it's just a really unique fish Look how small its mouth is, that's amazing! (Yeah,) that's its long mouth

It’s pretty strange to see a cornetfish here, because cornetfish are usually known for hanging around coral reefs and blending in there Our guess is that it has something to do with the dying coral reefs, I mean, reefs all over the world this year are suffering their 4th year in a row of really bad bleaching due to high water temperatures We could be wrong

What do you guys think? Comment your best guess as to why this cornetfish is out of his usual habitat The bluespotted cornetfish is usually a solitary predator, stalking and feeding on small fish, crustaceans and squid, so we think this guy might have ventured out here looking for a meal The bluespotted cornetfish is actually related to the sea horse, and you can kind of tell by the similarity in the shape of their mouths I think the bluespotted cornetfish is a notable fish for its long, unusual slender body shape, and its tubular snout, its large, red eyes, and its long tail filament that's lined with these sensory pores that can help it detect prey So, tell us if you’ve ever caught one, or if you've never seen a cornetfish before and this is your first time, comment below and tell us! One of the nice thing about pier fishing is the chance to talk to fellow anglers

As opposed to being on a boat with just you and some of your friends, being on a pier allows you to talk to other people who share the same passion that you do, and its a lot easier to pick up tips from other people who have been doing it, you know, longer than you have We met two of our friends while we were out there, Mike and Evan, and they often fish this pier, and they were telling us that the pier isn't really great fishing now, but it is hot in the summer! Bait everywhere

(Right from the surf?) It's black! This–? All this blue is not blue, it's black 'cause of the bait (From bait?!) Bait! ($#&*!) All around this whole pier is black We’re going out with Mike and Evan in our next episode, and we had a blast If you want to talk to us more often, or if you want to join a group of fishermen who are discussing things online, join our Facebook group, Senko Skipper Freshwater Fishing If you don't like freshwater, let us know that you want a saltwater group, and maybe we can work on starting that We've been having a lot of give aways, a lot of discussions, a lot of sharing of photos, a lot of sharing of stories, contests, we're having a lot of fun on that page and if you want to stay up to date with what we're doing and if you want to communicate with us on a more personal level or more often, go over to our Facebook page, Senko Skipper Freshwater Fishing and find us over there Thanks for watching everyone! Stay tuned for more!

Beach fishing: What will we catch with this?

OH, OH, OH! Here we go! *Drag screaming* zzzzzzztttt I know, I wanna let him eat This drag is tight! I'm going to let him take it because this drag is so tight My heart is going a million miles per hour

We are in Sebastian, Florida looking for some big fish These are our new friends and local fishermen Mike and Evan the brackish pros We met in the other day at the pier and they wanted to put us on some fish So we were in charge of bringing the bait Luckily, last night, we caught a lot of bluefish

Once the bait arrives, Evan jumps into action cutting the bait into chunks Nice and bloody The bloodier the better Right? And then hook his chunks of bait on a big "J" hook Attached to a 4 oz sinker? 3 oz Some wire

Barrel swivel to 200 pound Then another swivel at the end Then cast it out far and wait Try to guess what fish were going for Write your guess in the comments below right now

Conch shell! I found you this Aww thats so pretty! Florida is full of predator fish Something will eat our bait We just have to wait for them Look, look, look, SHARK

Right there Right there He was right there He was right there Erin! Get the camera! There was a shark right there bro! Literally right there

Right in the first wave right there Woohoo one of us is about to get picked up! You saw a shark? Yea bro! I just seen his F*#ing fin come up right there dude Right there What kind of shark was that? It was probably a spinner because i didnt see no black tips on it So there are some sharks hanging out here in the shallows? Right there in the shallows, right in the surf

Oh dude Get ready man, Sharks right here you right here it is right here tonight Just watch the waves, watch the water He just, the spinner came right up out the water Like holy sh*t And people swim in here? NOT ME! Shark fishermen know not to swim in here I was lookin right there too, like something was, I was just lookin I just seen a fin like

The other day we were out here and we could see them smashing the top spinning out of the water OH OH OH! HERE WE GO! OH he dropped it He dropped it

He got excited! I know Im just trying to let him eat, this drag is tight! Im going to let him take it, because this drag is so tight My heart is going a million miles per hour! I know Im lookin like a rookie bro, but just chill *Drag Screaming* Zzzzzzttt Grab it, come on! This is for you Grab it! Grab it, grab it! Here gimme the camera Go! Tighten the drag a little bit

Tighten the drag Go ahead, tighten the drag, tighten it There you go, there you go! Reel!! Reel! Reel! Reel! There you go! Reel! He got it, he got it, let him go! There you go! Shark Go! Reel it baby! Lets GO! You got a shark on baby!, You got a shark on! There you go, follow him! Follow him down the beach There you go baby you got a shark on! It feels like Im hooked onto a small car right now And its taking me for a ride

The only chance I have, is letting it fight and reeling in the slack When fighting big fish, it's a game of tug-of-war If you pull too hard the line WILL snap The shark is driving me down the beach and towards the inlet BRING EM IN! ITs a nice little one, but its a nice way to start the morning

Yeah I'm ok with a little one right now He almost dumped you though! You are already 3 rings down bud! That B*tch was going bro, cuz I had to let him take it becuase I had no– Yea bro, he hit it right on the surf! YESS BRO I TOLD YOU I SEEN HIM RIGHT HERE! OHHH HE'S GOIN, HES GOIN, HES GOIN! There you go Listen to that F*@$in reel scream There you go! The virginity is being took from this reel Follow him down the wave Follow him down

But not everyone was happy with us running down the beach A fellow fishermen approached us and he threatened to cut off our fish if we tangled up his lines Dont cut us off! Its a fish, we cant help where its going man! Its a fish, we cant help where its going He's in the surf tho, he's in the shallows! Your line is past that Have you seen what it is? Have you seen what it is? Get it on film, Get it on the camera! Just dont tangle my lines up, I dont care about your video

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 will get cut *SHHHHH* Come on lets just land it! Dont worry about him Lets just land it, and get it back in the water Its right here Its right here in the surf

We will let it go right now, we will let it go Just get it on camera! Sorry dude We don't want to tangle up your lines But we have a fish right here in the surf Its actually so close that it swam under his lines Dont threaten to cut off my fish when its that close

Right? Is it a black tip or a spinner? Careful! Careful! WOOO, YEAH! We did it! Our first black tip! Ahhhh So we spent a bit of time researching to make sure that this is actually a black tip and not a spinner shark and we believe that this is a black tip because it doesn't have the black on its anal fin which is actually the main difference between the black tip and a spinner shark But what do you guys think? Do you think it is a black tip or a spinner shark? Let us know in the comments below Alright lets bring it back in Lets put it back in How do you unhook this? *THUMP* Get you in the nuts?? I feel these all, i feel these all the time

Just pull the nose up if you could Like this? Oh my God! Look at his teeth! Get that GoPro in there Has anyone watching this ever caught a shark? Because this was our first time Black Tip! Alright hooks out Lets get it back Hold this

Ready? Be careful! Be careful! Get em out there to the surf There you go! *Heavy Breathing* First shark down, 100 more to go! Dude Awesome! So who is next? While we had kind of a tense encounter with the other fishermen earlier, he seemed to change his attitude after we let the fish go That was crazy! We were literally just talking about how We saw something jump up right on the surface Yeah I told you I seen him right there! Im like dude

we are going to get took! Were gonna get took! Then that rod just BENT! As I was saying Oh sh*t we about to get one your line goes *Zooop* We want to thank the Brackish Pros for teaching us how to catch a shark We are the Brackish Pros so we'll be doing freshwater Bass fishing, catfishing and we'll go right to saltwater to shark fishing, snook fishing We do all kinds of fishing you know? And then try to educate people how to catch the fish because a lot of times people don't know how to catch fish, they wanna learn So we try and teach

Yeah, just like you guys! You can go ahead and check them out on social media And if you want to join our community of fishermen on facebook we'll put a link to our group in the description We love that group and we have been sharing all kinds of stories and we hope that you'll join our community there Thank you guys so much for watching this video and stay tuned for more

Florida Pier Fishing: Finding Fish in Miami!

Look, it's changing colors! What!? It's changing colors! Do you see it? It's turning from blue to red –Oh! Now it's changing back to blue! Am I seeing things? (It already feels warmer

) This is the Carlyle It looks really cool It's beautiful Alright, here's our place for the week! Okay! Wow! Pick yourself a room! Woah! This is nice! What's uppp!? There's the beach! We're staying right in front of the beach Look at that! There's the beach! What a great spot! We are at Tark's

and Tark's is supposed to have what–? Chicken wings and seafood? Yup It's this little tiny shop and it looks packed with a whole bunch of people right now

It's so warm here! Alright, we've got conch fritters, gator tail, fried fish, fried oysters Yum, yum! Happy boy Alright, I'm going to give the gator tail a try Ready? Does it taste like chicken? Yes, it tastes just like chicken, like white meat Alright, just at a local bait shop right here, gonna go pick up some stuff to go pier fishing tonight! Guess what's in here, Erin

Um, it smells like shrimp Okay, ready? Phew! Fresh bait! Two hours before the tide, two hours after the tide good? Ok Good

Universal We need to get some shrimp So, what are you getting? we are getting a Yozuri lure, which are really expensive, and I'm not sold on the brand, but we're getting one of those My friend, Thihn, told us that these Gotcha plugs, they work really well, So we're going to get some of those as well and yeah That's going to be day one My go-to rig very easy to use Guaranteed fish almost every time! Wooow Oh! Oh ho ho! What was it? Oh ho ho! What'd you get? I don't know! I just like it when they pull, it makes me excited Oh I got some–Is that a bite? Yup Get it! You got it? Tee! Oh! It's a needle fish! You got a needle fish! Yes! Oh, you snagged it though, did you snag it? Don't touch it, don't touch it! It's gonna bite you! Ahh! Okay

What do I do, Brendon? Alright, put it down This is a tiny one (Cindy:) It's weird though, it's cute! It is cute! It's cute! Wow! It's beautiful! (It's, like, blue) Does it have a lot of teeth? Yeah, it has a lot of teeth on the inside

Oh my goodness! Wow, oh my god, very blue, you see the tail? Can you hold it? I want to see the color, please Really quick? Wow That's a beautiful color! It's almost like, see-through, orange here Transparent Alright, throw it back, I don't want it to die! Aw! You want to touch it? Hurry, before it dies! Alright– Ahh!– Now you can let it go Alright I see needle fish in there! There are so many needle fish! Don't catch another one! Those are not fun to catch! They're so big! They're, like, a foot long! What's that? What are you doing? Over there! Ahh! Oh! Brendon! Haha! I diddled the line

Give it a cast out there! You scared me! I thought I caught the fish of my life! Yeah, right, go cast it out there (Brendon, hurry!) Woah! Brendon, go! Go! Woah! Oh, oh! This is a parrot fish! Look, it's changing colors! What!? It's changing colors! Do you see it? It's turning from blue to red Oh, now it's changing back to blue! Am I seeing things? No Wow, okay Alright, I'm going to throw the rig right by the rocks and see if, uh, there's anything hiding in there Huh! What'd you get? (You got one?) I don't know! Woah! Another species! this is like, species number? Five? Six Watch–watch the hooks Look at this one

It's beautiful! Species number six! Wow! Alright, so we were here for probably 15 – 20 minutes, and we caught, like, 7 different species of fish, just goes to show why I really like the sabiki rig again, it's not a very challenging rig, it's a very easy, casual kind of fishing rig, but it catches a whole bunch of different kinds of fish and it's really great at catching bait fish And it's so fun! It is so fun and it's so easy, this is just the kind of fishing that I love, where you just go, and you just catch a bunch, and it's over and it- oh! This was, like, so much fun, I am so happy right now Now, the hardcore fishermen would argue that that is very boring kind of fishing but this is not for everybody, whoever wants to just chill out, catch a bunch of fish, kick back and relax, the sabiki rig is for you

It works
